Philip OKeefe Posted May 3, 2002 Posted May 3, 2002 Wager, I didn't even make the list? Sheesh... I guess I'll have to do better at the next audition. Actually, I can't think of anyone in that set of movies who would make an appropriate match for me. I'd see myself more in a Ed Harris or Bruce Willis type of part... mostly because of the lack of hair.

ernest828 Posted May 3, 2002 Posted May 3, 2002 It would be unconstitutional and a bit ironic if we censored the content of this page while freeing the people in Afghanistan from a controlling "govt." such as the Taliban regime, don`t ya think? However, with this said, members of this forum should do their best to respect each other and post something of value. There are two sites I visit each day and this is the second. The first is Mackie. Why? Theres too much "water" here and not enough of the info I`m looking for about gear and techniques. Anyways... glad we have this site. Now as long as we can keep the water out of the Mackie site, I`ll be overjoyed. Peace, Ernest

Franknputer Posted May 3, 2002 Posted May 3, 2002 Hey - I love it here, and I believe I took Craig's position to heart from the beginning. Fun & humor are definitely something of value, as much as good advice. Being able to give & get both is why I come here. I'm a little disappointed about not getting in the movie, though...but at least no one cast me as Jar Jar! :D Hey, speaking of Star Wars...does anyone else think that the band in the Cantina just rocked? I think this place is great - I really feel like I have made some friends here, and you can never have too many of those. In spite of all the silliness, this is the first place I would come for audio advice. By the way - is this a good choice for a portable mixer?
Dwarf Posted May 3, 2002 Posted May 3, 2002 Frankn, Those are great portable mixers! I made a batch of muffins the other day and that mixer just rocked! -- Rob Some people like cupcakes better. DC Posted May 3, 2002 Posted May 3, 2002 This is by far my favorite forum and it's cool that it's self policed. The number of great souls around will always keep things in order I believe. ps As I rarely start topics, glad you liked the what happens when you die one, Craig. -David http://www.garageband.com/artist/MichaelangelosMuse
Mark LaCoste Posted May 3, 2002 Posted May 3, 2002 Not sure if this thread has come to it's natural end yet... What the heck, I'll add to the (usual) mayhem. I am a professional lurker who checks this forum often. I have noticed the recent lack of real good "on topic" threads, and without really thinking about it I knew what Mr. Anderton so elloquently stated at the beginning of this thread.
you are so right. that's a great ending to this thread, but i have to say that there are plenty of roles in star wars- you're ALL in the mp version. i did put some thought into my original casting (chip/boba- allegiances to noone; pop/chewie- well that's just weird, i guess...), but who here can name all of the "major" posters? and if i had, it would be a nice long list, with many sandpeople. so, if you like, feel free to cast yourself in any role, including one that's "taken" (you can be luke- dan turned down the role of hero because he thinks mark hamill is a dork). tell us about it, or don't. keep posting, keep reading, learning, joking, whatever. just use the force.

Tom Capasso Posted May 4, 2002 Posted May 4, 2002 My motives here at SSS are extremely selfish. The previous moderator at the Low Down (Ed Friedland) had kept the OT stuff to a minimum, and his successors (of which I am one) have done the same. It has given us clear focus on bass topics, but something less of a party spirit. If you haven't visited us, you may get the impression that we're boring. We're not, we just consider topics like "how do you form a band" to be off-topic. We goof around some, because we don't want to be drop dead serious (and I'm the worst offender - I'm known there as "Shecky Capasso" for the bad puns). The reason I think that's OK (outside of the fact that it makes finding bass info easy) is that Craig, Master Moderator, has provided this music-based party. So when I need to look in, or join in, at the party, I come here. I don't start topics very often, and if I do, they have some music inside. I don't read the recording-equipment threads, because I think sonar is used in submarines to detect objects. I enjoy the goofy stuff, and I find value in the music-related stuff (like Tedster's recent thread about getting a good vocal performance). So thanks to you all for this party. I like coming here. And now my success is assured having been cast as the robot who can figure anything out and squeaks alot (Wager - how did you hear my singing?)... fantasticsound Posted May 4, 2002 Posted May 4, 2002 "I can't believe it! I'm surrounded by assholes!" What a way to segue back from Spaceballs to the nature of this forum ;) :freak: :D I enjoy the SSS forum for entertainment and information. I appreciate the atmosphere here, along the lines of Craig's Cocktail Party. It's nice to party with people you can talk music, gear, or anything else at any given moment. If I absolutely want to be serious, regarding instruments or recording gear, several of the other forums, as Tom pointed out, stick closer to on-topic threads. I neither believe it makes them better, nor does it diminish the musical impact of the SSS forum. They're just different. I also like the idea that we can talk about a wider variety of on-topic issues here. I work far more in live sound, lighting, and video than anything else. I've been a musician for 27 or my 35 years, and have a B.A. from Columbia College with a concentration in sound recording, acoustics, and a little reinforcement. Many of the other forums almost demand I relegate my comments to only one of these aspects of my musical life. Not so in the SSS. Thanks, Craig! :) It's easiest to find me on Facebook.
