heimel
Can someone explain the headroom function on the input of a Gold Channel preamp. I'm recording a drum machine stereo into the gold channel and into a VS-1680. Do I want 0, 3, 6 or other headroom on the input? I want to hit the VS at about -4. The drums are fairly even dynamically. Anyone?
heimel
Alright, you don't actually have to own a Gold Channel to reply, just know the answer.
Uh Clem
headroom is just for autogain setting - so when you run the autogain, it will set the gain that far below the max detected level - this is just incase whatever you are recording decides to be louder than you expected. other than that, it does not matter. heimel
Does anyone know if the output setting on the Gold Channel is absolute. If I set it to -4 is it really -4 or can transients get by that may not show up on my VS's less than ideal meters? Thanks.
