halljams
I tried to get the upgrade via down load last night. i went to the site and ordered. The instructions said to get the download version just take the "download" option in the shipping options, so i did. This morning i checked my email and there was a message from Cakewalk saying that there was a problem with my order and that if i didn't respond in 1 hour(they emailed me at 6am) they were going to go ahead and ship it with the $30 shipping option. I'm no genius but $30 is damn close to 1/2 the cost of my $79 upgrade and i know i can get a book and a cd shipped to me for under $15. It just kinda pissed me off that they gave me one hour to respond. The guy at cake said the download option has been postponed indefinatley but there is nothing about that anywhere on the site and the option is still up in the shipping options. I got them to cancel my order by calling sales, but i still think it's fucked up. Ok,i feel better. I'm over it Be warned though if you want the download upgrade option. Philip OKeefe
So, you can't just do a D/L upgrade? I assume you can get a dual D/L - mailed upgrade still, correct?
Alndln
$30.00?They only charged us around $10.00 for shipping on preorder, which seemed a little high since ordering my power supply(a bit heavier)from Cal. to N.Y. only costs $7.00,and they were both Fed Ex savers. What's the extra $20.00 supposed to be for? By the way I just got mine today(2.0). "A Robot Playing Trumpet Blows"
medford
Oh Shit! Here we go. I just checked my order number and it said my order had been cancelled! No explaination or anything. When I first got the email from them and placed my order CW replied that I too had screwed up the shipping option so unless I responded within one hour my order would be shipped via their standard shipping service and I would be charged $8.95 and thanked me for my order. I responded as fast as I possibly could but alas it appears I am too much of a fuck-up to have an order with them. It ain't no cakewalk. medford :freak:
vintagevibe
The word on the Cakewalk newsgroug is that they decided not to offer downloadable upgrades. $30.00 would be outragous though. Maybe thats a fee for manuals and CD as well as shipping?
Dylan
I see that your in Canada, Halljams. That's probably why the shipping is much higher than it is for the folks in the states.
Dylan
I just saw this on the Sonar newsgroup: Ordering from the cakewalk web site is too expensive - high shipping cost: $80US for update + $30US shipping = about $175 CAN. add to that a $5 Canada customs fee and about $10 GST for a total of about $190 CAN. I contacted the canadian distibutor for Cakewalk (Thinkware Canada) who told me that the update should also be available from any dealer/music store. Likely by special order as I have done, it's probably not going to be a stocked item. Also your local music store sales person is not going to know about all this so you have to get them to contact the distributor. I got a price quote of $140 Can. and it's on order. Of course there'll be $10 GST on top of this.

thisDude
Why WOULDN'T they offer downloadable upgrades? Are companies free to charge whatever they like for shipping, or do they get around it by saying "shipping & handling"? Just saw a commercial for "free" computer based learning courses (easy stuff like windows, internet, word), but they charge $7.95 (very small print) for shipping & handling! Mass produced cd's cost pennies and mass shipping shouldn't be more than a buck. More creative marketing...

Alndln
$80.00 was the "Pre-order" price for registered users upgrading to 2.0,XL prices are a bit higher. Not that 2.0 is out,I don't think the pre-order price applies any more. Anderton
[[ Not that 2.0 is out ]] But it is! I installed it on my computer last night. Haven't checked out the new stuff yet -- I'm working on a tune that has to be finished next week -- but it seems peppier and has been working fine. Philip OKeefe
What I don't understand is why can't we do a D/L upgrade - with or without a hardware (disk and paper manual) upgrade as a option or "in addition to". Has anyone spoken with Cakewalk and received an answer on this? Was I just stupid for not ordering the 2.0 before it was released?
Gtoledo3
Hey guys, No one is holding a gun to your head to make you buy this. As far as I can see, Cakewalk has the right to charge whatever they want, no? That being said, I feel for you all:) -GT3 Want mix/tracking feedback?
