Scott from MA
Can anyone explain to me why VH-1 is showing "Beetlejuice" right now? What the hell does that movie have to do with music?!?! (Sorry, Craig... I know this topic isn't "Sound, Studio, and Stage" related. But, that's kinda the point!) ------------------ Scott (just another cantankerous bastard) Scott (just another cantankerous bastard)
Felix_dup1
I was thinking the same thing last night. "what the f**k?..." But did you see the Def Leppard movie, or the Osmond thing? I caught bits and pieces (actually, just one bit of the Osmond movie, which was more than enough) - these movies have a yukky "Lifetime" feel to them, don't you think? At least they showed "Valley Girl" once - loved the soundtrack on that one (and seeing Nicholas Cage before he hit it big).
ABECK
Yeah, that Beetlejuice thing caught me by suprise. I kept having to double check the channel. I haven't seen the Def Leopard story, but I heard there was some studio stuff with Anthony Michael Hall playing Mutt Lang. I always get a kick out of "studio" scenes in films. I like to count how many things I see that don't make any sense. Andrew
Scott from MA
I saw a few minutes of the Def Leppard movie... didn't see the Osmond one. They may have been lame, but at least they were about music! Hmmmm... "Valley Girl"... I don't think it should be on VH-1 either, but at least it's got a strong rock-n-roll soundtrack. "Beetlejuice" on VH-1 doesn't make ANY sense at all! A little tip to the folks at VH-1: We turn to your station to see things about MUSIC! If we wanted to see old movies, we could flip to the USA network. Scott (just another cantankerous bastard)
Dylan
Wait a minute. VH1 is about music? Could of fooled me.... -Dylan

What the hell does that movie have to do with music?!?!
ratings, ratings, ratings...oh did i mention ratings? a lot of this was discussed in an earlier (what happened to MTV) thread, but basically most of the so called "niche" networks (TNN, TLC, etc) found out over time that just by being a niche, they were never going to grow. (sucks if you like the niche)... that is why they moved to broader based programming. TNN is no longer the Nashville Network...it's the National Network. A&E was highbrow Arts and entertainment, now they show Rockford files! TLC used to be the Learning Channel...now it's just TLC (they can get away with showing rescue 911 and COPS reality car chase type programs now.) and Court TV had to think fast when there were no high profile OJ type trials to cover anymore and started up with Law & Order reruns.... i helped to launch a niche cable network years ago, and no matter what you do, most people watch "programs" not networks. the network is merely a brand identifier to get people to watch their programs. If "Friends" switched to a different network, their rating wouldn't change... historically, movies always do well. (this is why so many local broadcast channels show movies on weekend afternoons)... if someone just flipping the channels comes across "beetlejuice" and they like the movie, they'll watch it and not really care that it is on VH1. You could put Seinfeld reruns on the Food Channel and people would watch 'em. sad part is, it really shows how few people care about having music on TV! i miss dynamic recording artist host don kirschner and the midnight special... -d. gauss
KJ
Great VH-1 shows movies. I just wish they wouldn't show the same ones over and over and over..."Elvis and Me" that stupid 200 hour Jacksons mini-series. They never repeat the stuff I'd like to see. I'm a big fan of "Behind the Music" but if I miss one like REO Speedwagon or Brian Setzer or Keith Moon or Badfinger, who knows when it's on again. But don't worry, Ricky Martin, TLC will be on forever... russrags
I don't know if VH1 has ever shown these or not, but definatly favorites of mine: "Great Balls Of Fire", The Jerry Lee Lewis movie (played by Denis Quaid) I'd buy that one, I don't even see it available to rent at Blockbuster ???? "The Wonders" Tom Hanks Elvis - there's a really cool one that was a series (name ???) it was a young Elvis just makin' it. Shot 7 or 8 yrs ago. The Wall - Floyd " " LIVE from Berlin The Song Remains The Same - Zep Even The Monkees re-runs would be better than Beetlejuice !@#$%%^ _____________________________________ I'll think of a few more in a minute, but I've gotta get to a session. Good clean fun movie. I recently saw a bus card promoting the new HBO Speilberg/Hanks WWII miniseries "Band of Brothers", and it included a logo for Playtone. That was the record company in "That Thing You Do". Clever name for Hanks' production company.
