Have fun: Timeless _records_ of all time

Recommended Posts

Another thread is running on timeless "music." As opposed to timeless "records." Might be fun to try to whittle it down and build a list of timeless "records" of all time. It's hard, though, because there are hundreds, thousands of great songs. But timeless? It's hard to pick what fits in that group. I was reading a Brian Wilson interview in a songwriting book, Songwriters On Songwriting. Very interesting book. In there, Wilson mentions of his admiration for Phil Spector's vision and talent. How he changed music. And he mentioned "Be My Baby" as a record that blows his mind. That he has never been able to figure out how Spector "did it." That made me snap to attention as I have always loved that record. I just love that tune. I just assumed it was because of Ronni Spector's voice, which is a really cool warble, but maybe it's because, as Wilson said, it's a special record. But is it timeless? I dunno. It certainly is for me. So, what do you think are the most timeless RECORDS of all time. I think of Tedster mentioning Patsy Cline's Crazy as a timeless record. Yep. If we said "song", as opposed to "record," that muddies the water, as Willie Nelson wrote that and recorded it, too. But Patsy Cline's version is the one people always think of as the classic. He mentioned Nat King Cole's "Unforgettable." Yep. I guess a timeless record could be described as one that if it comes on the radio, no matter what type of music you normally listen to, it doesn't piss you off that it's playing. And actually, you kinda like it, somewhere inside. Of course, you might actually LOVE it. Tedster's two and a few that come to mind for me... "Surfer Girl" -- Beach Boys "Yesterday" -- Beatles "Unforgettable" -- Nat King Cole "Crazy" -- Patsy Cline "Faded Love" -- Patsy Cline "Last Date -- Floyd Cramer "King Of The Road" -- Roger Miller "Mac The Knife" -- Bobby Darren "Sailing" -- Bobby Darren "New York New York" -- Frank Sinatra "Sleep Walk" -- Santo and Johnny Honorable Mention -- countless Beatles tunes That last one, "Sleep Walk," that's the instrumental 60s guitar thing. I dunno if it fits but I never tire of that song and every single time I hear a band play it, no matter what their style of music, people just love it every time. EDIT: I did some research and found that "Sleep Walk" was out in 1959 and won a Grammy. And has already won BMI's "Two Million" award for a record that has surpassed two million airplays! I guess that's pretty good evidence for timeless. I wonder how much a songwriter earns per airplay.

This is the Department of Redundancy Department... we have been alerted to your redunant post title, "Timeless Records of All Time." Thank you and mny thanks for choosing and selecting this title. We do, however, have some suggestions that maybe can possibly deepen your redundancy level, nonetheless. How about "All-Time Timeless Records of All History?" Or "All-Time Historically Timeless Records of Forever?" Again, thank you. Thanks. Thankfully, Department of Redundancy Dept. ;)
