How to find places to hear live music on any given night in your locale

Recommended Posts

In your area, how do you find "things to do"... places to go hear bands... "what's happening around here tonight?" On Fridays, our newspaper prints a directory of nightclub listings and each club lists who's playing, price of cover, if any, time of show for the upcoming week. So, you get a week's directory on Fridays. If nothing changes in the next seven days and you think to keep the paper, it works okay. If you throw it away, argghhh! Other than that, the only way I find out is by being on a band's email list or go to a particular band's website and view their schedule, assuming they keep it up to date. Do bands have email lists in your area? Or does any other business or entity send emails to people in your area to alert them to local happenings?

In my area, there is a weekly publication called Gumbo Entertainment. It focuses on entertainment in the area. Pretty much the same as what you said about your newspaper. It has local club listings, and clubs can list what they have scheduled for the week. This could work great but many clubs don't list what they have going on. To get around this, bands can call and have their show dates listed in this paper free of charge. I always thought that this was a cool way for bands to promote their shows. --Matt

Our "Gumbo Entertainment" in the KC area is called the "Pitch Weekly". Restaurants, bands...clubs, concerts... a large dose of political commentary listing hard a- port, if you catch my drift.

I can't believe there isn't music publications in your area? Shreveport right? I'd have guessed theres plenty. Dunno. Here in my area we have Ninevoltmag.com, Splash, HamptonRoads.com, and the radio adverts club play all the time. Plus its so easy to get websites now, that if you're looking for a bands sched, just check out the website.
