Fender Vibrolux

I had a Vibrolux Reverb many years ago. I used it for a keyboard amp tied in with an Ampeg bass cabinet. It worked and sounded great for that application. It had this weird vibrato feature though that when used to the maximum setting would make the sound phase in and out, or more accurately stutter, I guess an attempt to create unnatural vibrato. I didn't use that feature often as it was too weird and I couldn't find a place to make it make sense. Good amp though! BD

Well it depends which Vibrolux you're talking about. The old ones are one of the coolest amps ever made. They sound great clean and they break up just wonderfully without ever becoming indistinct. It's just a badass, righteous tone machine! Now Fender pulled kind of a dirty trick: they've reissued several of their vintage models such as the Twin and the Deluxe. And those are the same circuitry as the originals I believe. But they've also released two new amps called the Vibrolux and the Pro which are the same names as vintage models, but ARE NOT the same amp. This pisses me off. I played a new Vibrolux recently and was underwhelmed. It's not a bad amp, and some people really like them, but only if they can get past expecting to hear vintage Vibrolux tone. :D Then they might be listened to more objectively. I really think Fender goofed and should have just called these new amps by some new model name - or better yet just reissued the original Vibrolux! --Lee

I had a '64 Vibrolux Reverb (stolen! ouch!) so when they came out with the Custom Vibrolux Reverb I had to get one. I agree with Lee that it's not the same as the original but it is still a very nice amp. The used the vibrato circuit from the Vibroverb which is a different design and it is very sweet. I love the amp. The '65 Deluxe Reverb Reissue is very nice too.
