I am totally in awe to stand in the company of so many experts. Never have so many shared so much with so few BTW As well as being a musician I am an expert on pianos(tuner-technician) so please feel free to ask any irritatingly stupid questions on that subject. Jeebus Christ! What is that thread by Taliban all about? That's freaky. I got in trouble over at the DigiFreq site a while back for suggesting that Scott Garrigus wasn't God, so I appreciate the irreverent attitude over here. Thanks for the laughs and knowledge. Later

Laker Kobe Bryant grew up in of all places Italy, and it would seem French Impressionism as an art style in the forms of Monet, Renoir, Pissaro and Cassat has become the defacto norm for middle American room decor. Of course, so has the negative-ionizing air cleaner, which is actually harmful to the alveoli in your lungs, so that doesn't neccessarily mean it's a good thing just because it appears as an idiomatic requirement of the Average American Household. For that matter, what passes as "music" these days has become quite multicultural if one examines what is found in most people's cd collections these days, so there is a great bit of variegated evidence towards the whole phenomenon. Once I broke my sternum and I couldn't do aggressive vibrato for almost a whole week, and that sucked.

Mr TheWeWus, Just to dissappoint you about the frivilousness of this forum, I just happen to have a technical question for you. I have just bought a second hand Yamaha Grand Piano from a dealer. Got an independant Piano Technician to check it out. He gave it an ok but said it need the hammers to be reshaped and "regulated". The piano is about 25 years old. He has quoted me $1300 to do the job. Question: 1. Is he trying to get some revenue out of me? 2. Will I be able to tell the difference after spending $1300.00 (All dollars are in Aussie Peso's)

Chip: that was very interesting-I could never write so something so vague and surrealistic-kind of like an excerpt from a Ken Kesey novel. Korean pianos also ruined the piano industry. They're cheap, and slick on the outside but crap on the inside. Alby: I would say yes, the guy is trying to get some revenue out of you. Get some more estimates. A Yamaha grand is a great instrument and after 25 years I'm sure it needs work, but question is does this guy who wants the big bucks know what he's doing? If he really did it might be worth it but there are few piano technicians who could really do a complete job on that piano and set it to factory specs. If the piano has not been restrung then it needs new strings also. Did he mention this? Could you tell a difference after all that work? Yes, but probably not dramatically. On a piano like that I could sand the hammers and do a partial regulation for $250.00 and you probably couldn't tell the difference from the $1300.00 job. So here's the deal, I'm in North Carolina- send me a plane ticket I'll fly out and save you a lot of money. and that is my expert opinion.

hey Wewus- seriously, the music knowledge here at mp is amazing. you'll see after a few weeks- there will be humorous posts, but there will also be thorough answers to musical questions. and questions about piano tuning do pop up here. you might also check out the Keyboard Forum here at musicplayer.

TheWeWus, Thanks for your help on this. The airticket is in the mail. I think the guy knows his stuff - was recommended by the Piano Tunning department at the local conservatorium. He said that he would take the whole mechanism and work on it over 2 weeks. I noticed last night that the dealer must have done what you said, sanded the hammers back and done a partial regulation on it. On your advice, I might save the $1300.00, and get it regulated properly in a couple years. We probably should carry this thread back to the keyboard corner, and stop interrupting the euridite threads here on Taliban's, Music in strip joints, etc. Regards Alby :)

A classic! The Wewus' 1st thread. :thu: /Mats P.S. Regarding CD alphabetizing: I bet you all remember the soup nazi episode of seinfeld. In my town there used to be plenty of record/cd stores (remember those?) and one of them was run by a true alphabetizing nazi. Iggy Pop was sorted under the letter O (James Newell Osterberg), David Bowie was under J (David Jones) and so on... Kraftwerk was sorted under K though (I never got that one, as everybody knows they started out as Organisation).
