Thumb Pianos

Recommended Posts

this guy makes some very cool thumb pianos from tins and pins. check his stuff at mp3.com (this is not spam, i don't know the guy). listen to "Brassy 2". most of the music is loops w/ delays, but each "tune" is made with one instrument, and there's an awesome photo of each one. very artistic and inspiring. the music is simple, but the project is damn creative. there have been posts here in the past about DIY instruments (popmusic & alphajerk have cool stuff), have you made a thumb piano? i have found some how-to sites, but nothing great (most are kindergarden-type projects). a big tin bass one could be cool... what you got?

thanks, pop. there's an actual Lark of the Morning store too, in Seattle (there may be others, i can't find my catalog). some cool stuff, and some cheaply made stuff. lots of good small stringed instruments that all look the same but have different weird names :D . they did have some gourd kalimbas there, but i'm liking the idea of old tin, for sound and looks. i hadn't heard of Twink, it seems very... well, the name is right. hey, there a video i just saw (daft punk) where the band is small monkeys with human faces, and they have cool gear! it looks like the keyboard monkeyman had a re-painted 303, and the guitar was wildly customized, too. they eat their instruments at the end.
