OS X and Audio Cards

Recommended Posts

Hi all - I am wondering about using OS X with older audio interfaces. I'm putting together a small workstation computer with a G3 that I want to update to run both OS 9 and OS X. I know that there is a lot of software rewrites going on to support the new OS - I assume the same is true for audio interfaces. Do any of you know about whether the older interfaces do or do not work? Do I need to look specifically for OS X support? What about OS 9 support for newer cards?(Is this a dumb question? ;) ) Any insight you folks can offer about this project is appreciated. Thanks! Christopher Kemp

I have heard of only a couple of audio card makers doing drivers for OS-X so far, which are at this point useless because no major DAW sofrware, soft instruments, plug-ins, etc, are yet recoded in Cocoa. With its CoreAudio and MIDI support, and native multi-threading for anything that runs under it (not in Classic of course), OS-X will SOMEDAY be the OS we've all been waiting for, but today, we're still waiting, and will be for some time.

Well, there may not be much yet - but BIAS PEAK is written for OS X, as well as their new paragraphic EQ plugin. So is TC Works' Spark ME, which is still available for free download BTW. So, to say there is nothing available yet is not exactly true... So when you say there are a few companies working on drivers - can you tell me who and/or what cards are supposed to get support?
