turning off 3 sec gap when burning CDs

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to burn and ID some LIVE music. I've got the 3 sec gap turned off (Disc at Once)in between songs, but it's just been reduced to about a 1/2 sec gap instead. Still this isn't acceptable. I'm on a PC with processer and RAM galore, Hewlet-Pakard burner, I've tried Adaptec 4 and Roxio 5 software at 2X speed. 7200rpm separate audio drive. Any suggestion's ????

There's always the possibilities of issues with certain burners, but Samplitude lets you drop track markers pretty much wherever you please. Ideal for live classical music- for example you can put in a track marker where a recitativo ends and an aria begins, but the sound is actually continuous. You can do a CD from one hour-long continuous file (done this no problems) unless your CD burner doesn't support this kind of thing. There distributed by Magix (under Pro Audio at the site) http://www.magix.com/ there's a list of supported CD burners there too. Here's the HP's I see (I'm looking for a new burner so I had to check it anyway): HP HP 4020I HP 6020I HP CD-Writer+ 7xxxi/e HP CD-Writer+ 8xxxi HP CD-Writer+ 9xxx -CB [ 02-02-2002: Message edited by: Bobro ]

Hey Bobro, WOW ... Thanks. I downloaded the trial version of Samplitude Master. Looks like a pretty steep learning curve. I've already done all the Mastering I care to do in Sound Forge and all 10 track are already cut up write where I want the tracks indexed. Got a 2-min word of advise how to just load in my wav files, asseble them in the correct order and Burn with NO GAPS ?? Thanks Man :D

I hate to bring up the obvious, but are you dead sure you don't have silence at the beginning or end of the tracks? I'm really wondering if during extraction/editing/etc you may have had some small bits of silence creep in. (Also, I was under the impression that the standard gap was 2 seconds, not 3?!) So this leads me to believe the above even more. I'd pull up those files in Sound Forge and zoom in on the beginning and end of those extractions or whatever and see if you have any silence. Disc At Once should do what you are trying to do. Hmmmm.... Tracks mastered ;) in Sound Forge 5.0, assembled in Easy CD Creator 3.5 (Wizard/No Wizard), burned (2X) to Fuji/TDK/Imation blanks. This is how I do it. [ 02-03-2002: Message edited by: the stranger ]

Thanks Bobro for the tip on Samplitude. Stayed up late last night and figured it out. NO GAPS .. Yippi :) I'd be curious how you're pushing this program to the limit. I'll have to check out what there other products do too. Thanks again. I don't know what the problem was Stranger. Sounds like you and me have the same setup. I've done it before no problem, however I did have to reconfigure my computer a couple days before this big Mastering session, maybe it has something to do with that ????? I know this LIVE music like the back of my hand and there's not any dead air where there shouldn't be. Hey Staranger you should check out Adaptec 4, it's way cooler than 3.5 and now 5.0(Roxio) has more of an AOL look to it, but you can make some real cool video post cards with it. I'll probably put 4.0 back in once I've had a little fun with the newer version. Now if I could just figre out Spepl cheak on this forms new look. Russ

Of course it's one thing to burn a CD with all kinds of goodies, but it won't necessarily be Red Book Standard. For example there's a Naxos CD done this way- track markers dropped right onto audio, NO pause, really great approach for live music- but my old CD player had problems finding those spots. Whoops- looks like we posted at the same time! Hey russrags, try a marker right in the audio and see how it works for you. The tune I did for Dave Bryce's Keyboard Corner compilation, here , was done in Samplitude- certainly not pushing the program to it's limits, just a straight "roll-the-tape" home recording. -CB [ 02-03-2002: Message edited by: Bobro ]

Bobro, What I did was start a new VIP session. Then I clicked on the open audio wave tab until I had all 10 songs loaded up. Next I made markers for each song and zoomed out to see that I still had a small gap between songs. So I made them all snap to grid and moved each song a little to the left. Next I Marked Track with the little red flag on each song. Setup my burn speed and hit record. Does that sound like I did everything the best and easiest way ???? I'm going to go check out your song now. :p Russ [ 02-03-2002: Message edited by: russrags ]

Except that you can save some work by selecting "set indexes on object edges" after all the files are where you want them if you have multiple files already trimmed to taste. -CB

Bobro, WOW .... I just checked out your MP3 .. FANTASTIC. I think I'll keep it up all day. Is that you singing ???? If so send over whatever testostorone pills your taking, I'd LOVE to be able to do that. I'll have to play around with the Multi Track side of Samplitude. It seems "Set indexes on object edges" was greyed out ??? I can't remember. Anyway it worked. YES This across the globe chat is kind of cool. It's 12 o'clock noon in Nashville and the Super Bowl is today. The RAMS are going to kick some butt real soon.

Hey thanks, man. It does kind of give me the creeps to sound just like my dad as I get older though. Well as long as the black socks with khaki shorts fashion sense doesn't kick in... :D Still a long way to go on recording skills of course. Hey it's the St. Louis Rams now, not the LA Rams, what a trip... well as long as the Raiders are still in Oakland I guess the world hasn't changed beyond recognition. -CB
