RNRDAWG
what's it gonna take to sync my da-88 that has a sy-88 card, to my pc that has a sound blaster live "value" card? i've got a midi/joystick interface cable connected to the sound card.i've connected a midi cable between midi in of the s/card and the midi out on the sy-88. i've recorded tc onto the da-88 tape and tried to sync to acid pro 3.0. acid shows that it's waiting for mtc.i think the dip switches on the back of the sy-88 are correct per the manual, but if someone can tell me what they're supposed to be i'll double check them. what about the 2 dip switches on the sy-88 board (inside)? thanks rnrdawg
russrags
You need to buy a midi time piece which will conect to your parallel port on your PC. These vary in price and avalible ins and outs. Depending on the number of midi modules you have you could get a Mark of the Unicorn PC-Flyer for about $50 which will handle two in and outs or, rack mount modules can be around $1,000 that do everything. You won't need to stripe your tape as it will be the midi cables that keep everything locked together. I do this with Sound Forge and CuBase as well. Nothing to it really, but I'll be around if you need more help. Russ
Uh Clem
All you need is to get the dip switches set right and your app set to sync to MTC coming in on your Soundblaster. I used to do this all the time when I had DA-88s with an SY-88 and you don't need anything else. The dip switches can be a pain - I can't remember what the settings are, but it is easy to get them wrong as I can remember wasting a lot of time over it. Check the TASCAM Board for tips - someone should know. I think the MOTU unit can give you more accurate sync (in certain configurations), but I never found it to be necessary. RNRDAWG
Thanks Steve, I looked at the sy-88 manual.pdf but i still have not found all the switch settings. The S2 & S3 dips on the pcb may have been moved. I bought the sy-88 off e-bay.I think it was set up for video. If you have all the settings for S1,S2, & S3 PLEASE..... post them I've seen a few more postings on the Tascam forums of folks with like problems and I'll gladly pass them on. Also any ideas on the best TDIF card? THANKS Again!!!!! RNRDAWG
Rheolwr
Two cards spring to mind. One is the Sounscape Mixtreme http://www.soundscape-digital.com/ , which is soon to come out under the Mackie name, the other is a Midiman Delta (they have a website but I only have the link at work. It's not a successful climb unless you enjoy the journey
