Saint Johnny B
I understand this new firewire chip is very cool. What do other people think? Here's the link: http://www.wavefrontsemi.com/
Saint Johnny B
Craig, Do you think all the interface box makers will jump on this chip, and if so, how long before we see them in the market? What are the average product development cycles these days?
Anderton
I think this is a really significant development. I give it some coverage in the EQ NAMM show report. Here's what I said: Wavefront Semiconductor has an audio evaluation module for their DICE II FireWire chip. It sports multiple audio interfaces (AES/EBU, SPDIF, ADAT optical, TDIF, MIDI, and RS232); but note that DICE II is unique among Firewire chips aimed at audio applications because its software is open source. Translation: Faster time to market for FireWire-based audio products. www.wavefrontsemi.com For example, I think the Alesis Firewire mixers shown at NAMM wouldn't be here if it wasn't for that chip. Saint Johnny B
That's strange, they told me there were no commerical units using this new chip yet. Maybe Alesis was using the Dice 1 chip? It looks like TC was really involved with this new chip and others from the AES too. See, http://www.wavefrontsemi.com/featurestories/10NWavefront2.html Thanks for the info, we should not have to wait too long before we see new firewire interface products.
