russrags Posted January 30, 2002 Posted January 30, 2002 1st gig was "Show & Tell" 5th grade. I was in LOVE with Mary Addison, she played GTR too. Mine was ELECTRIC. teacher was pretty cool and said "CRANK IT" .... I turned it up to Eleven and churned out "E-G-A, E-G-A#/A, E-G-A, G-E-E" it was at least a couple years before Deep Purple did it (Smoke On The Water") .. I remember at the time wondering "how in the world can that happen ??? What are the chances of that ???). 1st Professional gig ... was the big move to LA. I had just so many $$$ in my pocket, enough to get an apartment and start looking for work. I went there for music, so music was what I got .. 3 weeks later (for the next 2 years) I started working on Michael Jackson's "BAD" album. No kidding, check it out, it was my 1st album credit also. I've got a few stories to go with it, but I'll save them for another thread. Follow your DREAMS .. that's ALL I did.
halljams Posted January 30, 2002 Posted January 30, 2002 Grade 8. We played in a portable at the elementry school for the grade 6's. "Blackout" was our band name.We all had black t-shirts with that cheesy iron-on lettering.(probly hip now) We rehearsed more constructivley than alot of bands i have been in in the last few years. And, the drummers' mom made us hot chocolate! There is actually a video of the gig somewhere. There is also a bootleg of it somewhere. I remember this guy..Kevin Henry, sitting in the front row holding up his big getto-blaster taping us, and we were all like..."Hey man, that's illegal" None of us wanted to sing, so we just played Cat Scratch fever and some hendrix and zeppelin licks as far into the song as we could and then we'd sequay into another. I don't think anyone noticed. We rocked hard! Then the next set we just did the same thing again with different solos. I remember the school bully offered to break my fingers cause he was pissed we were getting attention from some chicks. My carrer pretty much went strait down from there. But i still have my memories. :D [ 01-29-2002: Message edited by: halljams ] Check out SUPERVIBE
