Bruce Swedien
Johnny B ------------------------------------------------------------------------ I hear he could do everything well...I heard it was scary at how good he could everything...tune pianos...saw boards...bang wood together solder...build mix desks...design rooms...do cool boxes....make money...run studios and business...and... Please tell more... Bill Putnam was my mentor. He saw something in me and brought me from Minneapolis to Chicago. When he brought me to Chicago - Studio 'B' wasn't ready so Bill got me a gig at RCA Victor Studios in Chicago where my fist assignment was the Chicago Symphony Orchestra! At that time under the baton of Dr. Fritz Reiner. The fact that I could read a score helped me tremendously. Bill Putnam did literally everything in a recording studio. Yes, he could tune the piano, he was a brilliant acoustician, he designed the consoles. In fact the Universal Audio 610 Microphone pre-amp, that is a available now from Universal Audio - was the microphone pre-amp that I grew up on in Chicago. It is superb! Plus - a superb gentleman. He was very kind and helpful to Bea and I..... You could easily call him the father of modern recording. Much of what we take for granted in control console design began life in Bill Putnam's fertile imagination! Everything good you have heard about Bill Putnam can be multiplied by ten! Alndln
Sounded like an amazing man,not only inventive, but also someone who seemed like he defined the term "take charge".Anyway,I found this little company statement interesting (especially about finding Bill SR.'s notes)from his sons regarding the continuation of UA www.uaudio.com/company/ "A Robot Playing Trumpet Blows"

"I" is a subject. It doesn't work as an indirect object, even in plural form. But, you knew that already... Thanks for sharing the info on Bill Putnam. Did he really design the 610 and the LA2A and the LA3A and the 1176 (!!!) ? Holy mackerel! The Black Knight always triumphs!
