It's more than likely someone checking to see what something is going for. Could be they have a similar item they want to seel and don't know what to expect, or they could be shopping and looking to buy. I've had as many as 15 watchers and no bids. miroslav
eBay auctions have a tendancy to explode in the last minute...or even last few seconds. However...there often will be at least one or two early bids. Right now...I'm watching about 30 items...but I may only bid on about 5-6 of them when their time comes. If no one hit's it at all...it's possibly not a sought after item...or it may have too high a price...or no one stummbled on it...??? Hey...just re-list if it don't move. I've seen items come back 4-5 times and STILL no one bids! miroslav - miroslavmusic.com "Just because it happened to you, it doesn't mean it's important." RABid
I'm not sure if it is a good barometer or not since it has been a while since I sold anything. It could indicate that your item initially priced very close to the initial price people are willing to bid. I watch items that I am thinking about bidding on because as a buyer it is useless to bid early if the item is already close to the maximum that I am willing to pay. Early bids only serves to drive up the price. Robert This post edited for speling.

Base
What they said... In theory it seems it should be a good sign, at least people are showing some interest, but in practice I've not noticed my watched items sell for anything greater than stuff that doesn't seem to be watched.... RABid
By the way, what is the item? Oh, and one more possibility. Someone may have the same item at a cheaper price on another auction. They may watch but not bid until other items have reached the same price. Robert This post edited for speling.
miroslav
Oh...I know what you mean Boosh... ...but, that would usually happen instantly, and the highest bidder would end up on top. But...I see where people keep coming back and raising their bid...or one person will keep doing it because the other bidder keeps outbidding him (automatically). You would think they would pause a minute and just let it go...but they usually drive up the price quick and high before they finally stop. Then...4 more days go by and they do nothing...until the last 30 seconds...??? I kinda' like to lay low until the last minute...and then I'll pout in the ONE amount I am willing to pay...and that's it...win or lose. I guess everyone has a good game planuntil they lose! miroslav - miroslavmusic.com "Just because it happened to you, it doesn't mean it's important." If see something I may want, it has a particular value to me that I am willing to pay. I will bid that value as my max bid and if I win; cool. If I don't win, then someone valued it more and was willing to pay. Our new and improved website Today's sample tune: Lonesome One
offramp
I've never been able to activate that "auto-bid" thing; do I understand correctly that it bids incrementally for you? There've been a few times I would have liked to do that, but can never seem to figure out how to get it to do that. I've upped my standards; now, up yours. Base
I've had someone do that to me before, he bid on some DVD's I was selling and had put in an amount that no one was going to beat (way above what they were worth), then when it ended claimed that someone had used his account to put in the bid and he was only willing to pay half of what the final bid was. Yeah right, so you had 4 days to conatct me and let me know to remove the bid and you didn't bother The only bad feedback I've ever left (and somehow didn't get a hit back!!!)... miroslav
I think that is what we are talking about... You just put in your highest amount that you are willing to pay. And...as others come in and bid up...your bid will aoutomatically increment until it hits your max. That's all there is. But..as noted...you get some people that will just keep increasing their bid...JUST so they can end up on top! And when they do that in the first day of a 7-day auction...they will chew up your bid very quickly, and drive up the price. miroslav - miroslavmusic.com "Just because it happened to you, it doesn't mean it's important." coyote
IMO only inexperienced people get into bidding wars early in an auction. I did on my first two tries - and that taught me a valuable lesson. Doing that quickly drives the price up beyond what I'm willing to pay for an item.... So now I wait til the very end, an I stick with the limit on what I'm willing to spend on an item. I don't use any of the automatic bidding services as I enjoy the game, and if I don't win it's OK cuz I know a similar or better item will come along soon. Also, if I see a BuyItNow that I know is a good deal I'll jump on it. That method has yielded two great basses in brand-new condition at roughly half the discounted superstore price, @ $800 total vs $1630 after tax. To have left them out there for bid would have been foolish. To get back on-subject, I never watch items I have no interest in. However, I will ocasionally watch items I've purchased to see what they're selling for now, and most of the items I watch, even though I'm interested, I don't end up bidding on. I used to think I was Libertarian. Until I saw their platform; now I know I'm no more Libertarian than I am RepubliCrat or neoCON or Liberal or Socialist. This ain't no track meet; this is football. RABid
And the best deals are found by taking your time. I've spent as long as two months for the right deal to come along. This post edited for speling.
Matt.Hepworth
10+ watchers will usually equate to a bid, but it depends on the item. Some items are much rarer and your ratio will be maybe 2:1 watchers vs bids. No matter how good something is, there will always be someone blasting away on a forum somewhere about how much they hate it.

True, but I figured that NOT giving him negative feedback was letting him get away with it to try again and the system only works if everyone is honest with it.
