Phait
This thread is getting very rhetorical and repetetive. I think it should be locked. BUT FIRST! What about Lindsay Lohan? I have no problem with her trying her hand at singing, why should someone good at one particular craft (OK, 'good' here is subjective) be limited to only that? And apparently she's been doing his for awhile since a kid, she is still pretty molded... I saw her video, yeah she's hot and all but she comes off as just another Spears. Even an album review said "Britney, Christina or any other of the blonde pop girls could've recorded this album", to paraphrase. If she'd of chose/not been conned into going into that sultry-pop genre and something more honest, I kinda wonder...

chedrob
On a positive note: Remember Faith Hill singing the anthem at the Super Bowl about five years ago? She nailed it and she knew she nailed it. Another thing: The Beatles (those guy's could sing) wanted to lip sync to their fine recordings when they were on TV to avoid any potential pitfalls. The musicians union would not allow them to do it so sometimes they played and sang along with their records. Check out "Hey Jude" from the David Frost Show - it can be found on the anthology. Back to Ashlee: Half time at a football game would be a good place to lip sync to avoid any potential pitfalls because it is a hostile environment. SNL is all about performing LIVE and the environment is setup to make that work - and over the years we have seen it work very well. It looks to me like Ashlee and her management made some wrong choices along the way. I concur with the general idea of this thread that it comes down to inexperience and not "paying her dues"

musicalhair
She's not that hot. At the Orange Bowl she looked more like Ozzy's daughter than Jessica's sister. What the fuck is that, at 51 I'd think DJWayne wrote the song drunk right before closing at the sleaziest strip joint with the fattest (and not phattest) and toothless dancers in his state. fantasticsound
djwayne - You suggest we're "turning on one of (y)our own". I would disagree. I (and we could be talking about most musicians and singers) spent many hours practicing until I was good enough to perform for others. Still, I was far from good enough to be a pro. Others certainly worked hard and achieved levels of expertise in the teens or early twenties deserving of success in the music biz. Ashlee Simpson didn't sweat for success. It was handed to her. And it was handed to her before she achieved a level of expertise deserving of a recording contract. And she got it for her tits and ass, not talent. And you still don't understand why musicians who worked their asses off for success are more than a bit jealous of a no-talent wannabe propped up by money because she's a sexpot? If you don't understand by now, there's no reaching you. It's easiest to find me on Facebook. Neil Bergman Soundclick fntstcsnd

So the truth comes out, you guys are a bit more than jealous of her. What's it to you ?? What she goes thru to come up with a great cd is her business not yours, and NO justification for vicious attacks. Very unprofessional. It's amazing to me, how many times somebody comes up with something that sells, how many people start attacking that person. I went thru a similar situation with Nelly Furtado when her first cd came out, there was no need for it, other than pure jealousy. People were going as far as saying she was a singer controlled by the mafia...ya right, "I'm Like A Bird", a mafia song ??? Years ago when I was out there performing, one of the guys in my group of friends was the same way....anybody who had any success at all, was his target and he'd trash them for anything he could.....viciously....we all learned that we had to ignore his negative comments. LawrenceF
I don't have anything better to do so I'll rejoin this pointless discussion. DJWayne: You are correct that some people dog other people simply because they are jealous. I cannot and would not disagree with that. Good point. Valid point. Here's my question though... Who decides when it's jealousy and when it's simply truth? I'm sure some really good looking studly guy got cut from a college basketball team "because others were jealous of him and his looks". It couldn't possibly be because he couldn't hit the inside of the rim if he was sitting on the backboard! That had nothing to do with it. To him and his supporters he's the greatest ever! My point? To those being dogged it's almost always jealousy. This is the definition of the word "DENIAL". It's like the crackhead who thinks they can "quit anytime". So by your logic they should also jealously dog Whitney H., Christina A. and every other talented succesful female performer out there but they don't. Shouldn't they be "jealous" of them also for having success while the "jealous failures" don't? Huh? Why aren't they? Here's why... BECAUSE THEY DESERVE THEIR SUCCESS! THEY EARNED IT! THEY CAN SING! Stop it... even the American Idol winners went through a process where they had to prove they had some talent. Sales are not an indication of talent. Someone sold 15 million pet rocks once. I suppose he was a talented artist? He was a great salesman who deserves his money just like Ashlee's handlers. The pet rock and Ashlee were the means for them to get richer. She's going the way of the pet rock soon. Real soon. I still wanna hear the little tone deaf rock chick sing the Mulan soundtrack accapella. That would be so funny... djwayne
If you go back in time, to when the Monkeeys came out, many people were dawging them for the same reasons they're dawging Ashlee.... and it was all a bunch of crap....jealous crap..they had corporate sponsorship...a team who help produce the music.... so what... sometimes it takes a team of people to get something noteworthy accomplished. Worry about your own team. Ashlee's in a precarious spot. Her sister's is famous, does that mean she should play two-bit bars for twenty years to earn her place ?? "Gee now I'm mad my sister isn't famous." That sisterly fame may have opened a few doors, but it's Ashlee's music that keeps her going...if the music sucked, she wouldn't sell any cd's. fantasticsound
djwayne - Hell, yeah we're jealous of her success! But what hurts is that she isn't a musician. She's a barely capable wannabe with good looks who, as I previously stated, is propped up by industry execs. Like LawrenceF stated, how many other fields allow image to be so pervasive that others completely ignore a person's skill and expertise? Not many.
