Wewus432
Those were the days my friend we thought they'd never end, we'd sing and dance forever and a day. We'd live the life we'd choose, we'd fight and never lose, those were the days.... oh yes those were the days!
Tedster
Mary Hopkin. Written by some guy named McCarthy or something...played with that band the Rutles. I think someone said that Paul may have done some "creative borrowing" on that tune... "Cisco Kid, was a friend of mine"
fantasticsound
Hey Tedster, I can't vouch for its' authenticity, but the whole story appears to be described on this page. This was my favorite song when I was very young. It's one of my earliest musical memories. I was only a year or two old when it was released, so I'd have to say it was already 4 or 5 years old when I first remember hearing it. It's easiest to find me on Facebook. Wewus432
Hey cool Neil, I knew there was a weird history to that song. It's a great song, is it not?
Tedster
Fascinating. Yes, it does sound Slavic in nature. BTW...speaking of the history of Apple, did you know that James Taylor's first record was on Apple? "Cisco Kid, was a friend of mine"
fantasticsound
Hell yeah, Wewus. I still love Those Were The Days, but I need to find a copy of it on CD. Ted - Yes, I was aware of the Apple/JT connection. If memory serves, JT was the first act (other than the Beatles, themselves) signed to Apple records. (Although the web page I linked seems to indicate he wasn't the first act to have a single release on Apple.) It's easiest to find me on Facebook.
