Tedster
I just had to post a sappy thread...as I just got off work, had breakfast with my son, bought some firewood for tonight and unloaded it in the bitter cold. Then, I'm getting ready for bed, puffing on a "Black and Mild" pipe tobacco cigar, and of course, I read Arell's post. And listening to some Celtic Christmas music. And I just wanted to start a sappy thread, thanking you all for just being you crazy people, and helping to keep me sane through the last year. So, I propose an SSS Holiday Table that we all can sit at, Christian, Jew, Muslim, Agnostic, Liberal, Conservative, pro-Mac or pro-PC, analoggers and digital folks...whatever, and put aside our differences and share a nice holiday meal, whatever you find to be worthy of celebrating...and a hot mug of whatever your favorite festive beverage is. I feel like Jimmy Stewart for some weird reason. Okay. Enough of that...pass the biscuits, would ya, Boosh? Who's got the mashed potatoes? Shars, a great looking plum pudding you've made there! I'm hongry. "Cisco Kid, was a friend of mine"

Dak Lander
Ahh, Pork Chops with apple pie mix and corn bread stuffing, MMMM Good, with a glass of burgandy and a toast to all my friends here. I wish you all the very best. Tomorrow morning, a bit of a fire and some eggnog. I think I'll even toss in a bit of rum. For Christmas our meal, about 1:00 in the afternoon, a slow cooked roast of lamb and a honeyed ham done on the bbq with trimings & a glass of wine or two. offramp
It's a thin holiday for us...just me, the onramp, and three kitties. Other Jesus-heavy family members in the area, but apparently not good enough for them. Nothing says "holiday spirit" like exclusion. Dinner is pheasant, and a bottle of her family's wine. A few good presents. Some snow...not as much as I'd like, but I'm thankful. There IS an interview on Monday afternoon; potential job. Haven't told her yet. Believe it when I see it. Kitties will be stoned tomorrow...a whole catnip-fest awaits them. Toys galore. Concentrating on the year ahead. Must make changes. Oh...and MORE SNOW. Yeah. MORE SNOW. Botch.
'twas Green Chile stew today, I just sent the last bowl home with my Sweetie and her son after church this evening (not traditional, but I don't know how to make menudo). Tomorrow will be the "official" Christmas dinner, I'm roasting a beef tenderloin in a salt crust, will post that on the recipe thread if it comes out well. New experience at the church service this evening. Being Lutheran we traditionally sing one verse of "Silent Night" in German; tonight we did one verse in Nigerian, one in Spanish, one German and the rest in English; think maybe we need more of that in the world tonight... I haven't watched my daily dose of Headline News today, and I'm not sure I will. We got a good blanket of snow last couple of days so a white Christmas just in time. I read Arell's post too tonight, had to email it to the Sweetie, that was good. I'm in a pretty reflective mood this evening (church service, snow, Mannheim Steamroller and a very nice Cellarmaster's Reisling from Columbia Winery will do that to you). The dogs seem to know its Christmas, they seem unusually affectionate this evening, and looking around my home studio I think I need to rearrange it so an equipment rack isn't in front of the fireplace, would be nice to have that going right now. Tedster
Botch, didn't know you were Lutheran! My wife comes from a Lutheran-enough background to have a guest spot on "A Prairie Home Companion"...all Swedes, ya know Quiet evening. I even roasted chestnuts in the fireplace. Have never done that before. I guess there's a trick, they either turn out nice or hard as a rock. They don't taste too bad, either. One of my presents, one that I've always wanted but never got, that I opened tonight rather than waiting for tomorrow...Vince Guaraldi's "Charlie Brown Christmas". Just got done listening to it. All I can say is that it takes me to a "happy place"...if I got nothing else but that for Christmas, I'd be content... Dinner tonight...duck soup. It was yum. Just a casual warm dinner before the big spiral sliced honey ham gets cooked tomorrow. "Cisco Kid, was a friend of mine"

Sounds like one of the Musicplayer get-togethers... but I didn't think we'd have very good attendance if I scheduled one for this time of the year. I don't think family always has to be blood. Agreed. Hey, I feel for ya Offramp... my wife is up in NoCa with her family for the holidays, while I'm kickin' it solo this year... I had to get some work done, and so it is just me, the three dogs and the three cats this Christmas. I'll pass one down the table to you, Phil, if you're just eating Cheerios or something this morning. Super, you're right. I never had any brothers...but I count two of my best friends in Michigan as brothers. And, hey, we're all family here, too, which is way cool. Dak Lander
Good morning all & Merry Merry. Got up at 01:00 am to start the lamb, couldn't sleep so Otis and I watched some telly 'til about 03:00 & dozed off. Otis woke me at 05:00 to go out side. Breakfast for me, simple mixed grain toast with REAL butter. Gotta be easy and watch the sugars you know, or I'd shared the breakfast pastries with the rest of the family. Sipping good, fresh ground Sumatra & just about ready for a bit o' the nog. Inlaws will be over about noon for the openings though we've cheated a bit. Phil, you're welcome to come over if you're so inclined to make the drive. Offramp, things will look up. Cherish what you have, those others aren't Christians. I found much the same thing in what was our church, though Catholic. Got a bit of mail that we're no longer parish members because we didn't attend services often enough to suite them. It didn't matter that they wouldn't marry my wife and me in their church. Heh, got 'em. One of my uncles is a priest in San Diego and he married us in the church on July 4th while I was in hospital recovering from the tumor excision back in 2000. So, I've married my spouse twice so far but now have two different anniversaries. Peace and love to each and every one of you. Lee Flier
Hey Phil and all, OK, so call me a weirdo (it wouldn't be the first time ), but it's Christmas Day, and I'm sitting here all by myself, drinking coffee and eating leftover pizza... AND I FEEL GREAT!! Seriously. I told my family that I NEEDED to spend the holidays that way this year. You might remember that the past couple of years I've been kinda stewing at the holidays because it meant I couldn't work on music. Well, we've got a new record to finish and the best Christmas present anybody could possibly give me was the time to just immerse myself in that for a few days with no other obligations. And so far it's fantastic. OK, so here is my Christmas song: Fresh tubes glowing in an open cab Pop screens scraping at your nose Backing vox being layered like a choir Through speakers from ADAM and from Bose Everybody knows An EQ and a treble knob Help to make the guitars bright Tiny pots and LED's all aglow Will make it hard to sleep tonight. I know these tracks are on their way I've loaded lots of luscious verbs and some delay I know our drummer Spyder's gonna spy To see if snares sound better wet or dry And so to all my friends on SSS From analog to HD 192 Although we record many times, many ways - Merry Christmas to you!!
