bombastique
Are you looking for a 2 track (mastering) editor or a multitrack version? For 2 track, it's really a toss-up between Spark and Peak. I use both, because they both have their positives and negatives. At this point, I would say that Spark has a slight edge, if it came right down to it... S_Gould
Yeah, I'd have to say Spark's the one, and there's even a FREE OS X version. Scott
Mats Olsson.
I still swear by my trusty old Sound Designer II (on a NUBUS Mac, remember them?). I suppose it has to do with the fact that I know this program inside-out and that it is VERY reliable and has surgical precision editing tools. And in combination with the JL Cooper CS-1 it's a great enviroment to work in. I do have BIAS Peak, Emagic Waveburner and other software (and newer Mac's) here also, but SDII remains my #1 preference. It's a shame that Digidesign kind of dropped the 2-track editing path... this product still rocks IMHO. /Mats http://www.lexam.net/peter/carnut/man.gif What do we want? Procrastination! Dylan
I'm with Mats. Sound Designer II is by far the best editor available for Mac. Too bad it's been discontinued :( .

digitalboy
would definitely suggest peak over spark having used them both. peak somehow just seems more intuitive. even though i'm a mac guy though i think the best audio editor out is sound forge for pc
soapbox
I say download ProTools Free and pay for Melodyne. It's a great one-two punch for the price of one! Enthusiasm powers the world. Craig Anderton's Archiving Article
bombastique
I'm gonna have to give the big 'thumbs down' to SDII for these reasons... 1. SLOW edits 2. 1 level of undo (sometimes none) Those alone pretty much can it. Hurrah to you guys that KNOW the program and have stuck with it, but I would hardly recommend it to someone that is just getting into this. G. Ratte
to butt in here... Melodyne kicks! wowow. Was working on a remix the other day, popped in the bassline, it spit out the MIDI. Now I know the chord changes, thanks. Oh, you're supposed to use it to fix vocals and stuff, I think. Played with Ableton Live for a half hour on the demo, looks awesome...just the thing to do live stuff on an iBook or whatever. The tempo shift is perfect. As for editing, I've always used Peak. Played with v3 yesterday, didn't notice anything better than 2.62? Just some new Bias EQ "Freq" plug, who cares. G.
