Went to see Sarahs doctor this morning. The doc said nothings happening and the babys not getting any smaller (probably pushing 8lbs.) so were going in to the hospital at 4:PM today and theyll induce. Should take around 12 hours or so which means well probably have a winter solstice baby.

Off to put the dogs in hock and take care of a couple of things. . .

See y'all on the other side of parentood!

As far as inducing labor, my first born ended up in an Emergency C-section because both me and the baby went into stress after they began inducing the labor. I was having contractions on a scale of 19, but I was not dialating at all. My heart stopped beating on the operatingtable from what the nurse told me and also my son was breech. After all is said and done, so not to scare Gabriel, both of my children were both healthy, strong, and both weighed in at over 9 lbs. The second delivery was by scheduled C-section, as the doctor said that I would not be able to endure hard labor after the first C-section.

THAT'S good! All this "dangerous induced labor" talk will take his mind off all the staircases, sharp tabletop corners and hot oven doors that'll occupy his mind for some time to come.

Gabe, congratulations. Hope the baby and Mom do fine. I'm sure they will. My only(and best) advice is to NEVER put anything past him/her.

Not only will the new baby bring limitless joy and happiness during this holiday season, but...

You can deduct it for the entire year!

Congrutalions Gabriel. As a father myself I can tell you, its the singularly most wonderful experience this life has to offer. I wish you and your family the best and to your wife a speedy recovery. Sleep now, while you can. ;)

Thanks for that - my question would then still stand. Why would there be a perception that induction itself causes problems? In your case a breech birth leads to C-Section anyway.... Induction obviously brings on contractions and eventual dilation. Dosage is easily controlled or even ceased however, and I'm not aware of induction in itself being linked with increased infant or mother mortality..

Hey! Way to slip one past the goalie!!! :thu:

Parenthood is the coolest thing in the world.

Words cannot express how much I love my 3 yr old son and my 1 yr old daughter.

And they are so incredibly precious as newborns.

Enjoy this moment.

It doesn't stick around long.

Take lots of pics (post a few online for us), and make lots of memories! :thu:

WOW congrats Gabriel! I had no idea when I saw you and Sarah in February that there would soon be another of you. ;) TOO cool! Hope to see some pics soon. :)

I was a product of induced labor myself BTW... my mom was feeling ill toward the end of her pregnancy and losing weight, and I was already plenty big enough to get my lazy ass out :D - I was a week late, in fact. So it was WAY better for my mom and me that they went ahead and induced. I certainly don't think any harm was done although you can judge for yourself how I turned out. :D My mom had a very easy labor that way also - less than 4 hours.

Hope it all goes great for you guys Gabriel!

1.5 years ago My wife to be did a test in the bathroom and it came out positive. We didn't believe it so we went to a fair because all the shops were closed here( it was sunday).

We bought two other tests and they came out positive too.

Man I know the feeling you have!! I will never forget the shivers and weird waves that went through my entire body when I discovered I would be a Daddy.

But Relax,.. those Shivers can't compare with the feeling you get when your better half just squeezed out your child and your holding it in your arms. I'm a huge guy and I never show emotions but when I walked out of that deliveryroom to call my mum and tell her she was a grandmother I cried harder than my just born baby.

I whish you and your family all the happiness in the world and hope you make time to spend many hours with your kiddo because they grow up so rapidly.

our Skipster is allmost 1 year old now and he really is a character.

I'm so happy for you! treasure this time man.

Lilly was induced.

Denise's water broke 6 weeks, 3 days early, but she never went into labor. 6 weeks is a magic number these days. They wanted to give Lilly more time for her lungs to mature, but weighed the advantages of that against time in Denise's womb with little amniotic fluid to protect against infection and decided we'd induce if natural labor failed to begin before 6 weeks, exactly.

Now we were warned about some ridiculously low percentage possible complications during pregnancy and birth. Anyone who has had surgery has been informed of such possibilities. But no doctor or nurse said anything about induced labor being any more dangerous than natural labor.

More painful? Yes. (Pitosin tends to cause more severe contractions than natural labor) But more dangerous? Not at all.

Even with Pitosin, Denise's body did not want to give Lilly up at that time. She was virtually not-dilated at all until about 45 minutes before Lilly was born. That was 14 hours after the first Pitosin was administered.

So I'll restate Nursers question. Dansouth - What makes you think induced labor is more dangerous than natural labor?
