Yeha, but it lowers your testosterone levels and raises your estrogen levels...

Seriously, what the f*ck with the candles? Where does this candle impulse come from, and in what other profession does it get expressed?

Dammit! Dammit! Dammit!

You'll never guess what's going on now....

About a month and a half ago I started taking multi-vitamin supplements from GNC - slow release ones that are fat soluble instead of water-soluble. The difference is the the fat-soluble ones stay in your system much longer, supposedly deriving more benefit.

Ever since I made this post a couple of weeks ago, my waistline has been steadily increasing. I've been getting in a couple rides a week, watching my diet, and when possible, doing my abs/push-ups thing. For all that, I still gained weight...

After some research this past weekend, I've discovered that, in rare cases, fat-soluble multi-vitamins get converted to fat storage depending on an individual's metabolism and whatnot. I WOULD be the rare example, right? Fucking pile of steamy horse shit.........

I became perplexed after weighing myself a couple of weeks ago, and finding a slight increase (up to 193 lbs). Then, on Saturday, I weighed myself and was shocked to see 202 lbs pop up.....I even questioned the validity of the scales, so I tried another set. Same result.

Upon learning this new info regarding the multi's, I'm immediately halting my intake. My 34' jeans are tight on me now - WTF?!!

I'm not too happy this morning, to say the least....

Cheers!

Spencer

Not to worry, Spence, you can have my nicely-broken-in 36es... ...I'll be needing to switch back to 38s from all the fricking FOOD I ate in the UK.

Naww...it wasn't that bad, BUT...I did eat too much.

The British equivalent of the Mexican restaurant is the Indian restaurant. Even McDonald's UK offers a "Chicken McCurry Sandwich" :D

Lots of Asian food...what pissed us off is that we didn't really see a lot of fish 'n' chips places in London. Bristol and Exeter, yeah, but not in London. I'm sure they were there, I just didn't see them. Plenty of Italian places. Tons of Starbucks and its innumerable clones. No Mexican places though. Hmmm...a market there?

Fortunately, we've got a couple of fantastic mexican places, and one righteous (do people still use that word?) Indian place. What's great about those places is, I have the willpower to not indulge in them very often. It's tasty, but your waistline may pay for it.

As for fish-n-chips, look no further than St. John's. Why go across the Atlantic when world-class fee-n-chee is so close? Again, it's not something I indulge in very often, but when I do.......sweeeeeeeeet, man.

But this whole "vitamins-making-me-gain-weight" shit pissed me off today. If it wasn't for the fact that I can lose it as fast as I can gain it, I'd be hyper-pissed! I mean, I've never gained that much weight, that fast before in my life, so I HAD to research it.

For the moment, I'll have to pass on the 36"s, but thanks for the offer :thu:

Cheers!

Has anyone ever heard of The Zone Diet created by Dr. Barry Sears? I've been trying to follow The Zone for almost a year now. Not to lose weight, but just for more energy and general health. I'm 5'11" 153 pounds and 8.7% body fat, so I'm a pretty skinny guy.

Dr. Barry Sears reccomends that your calorie consumption should be about 40% carbohydrates 30% protein and 30% fat. Also, the amount of food you eat depends on how much protein you need based on your lean body mass, which is your weight minus your percentage of body fat. (There is alot more to it but I don't want to get too deep into the details of The Zone now. If you want to learn more about The Zone it's best to read the book "Enter The Zone" by Dr. Barry Sears which you'll probably be able to find at your local library. If people on this forum really want me to, I can post a much more detailed descripion later this week after I'm done with finals at school.)

A diet which is basicly the same as The Zone has been endorsed by The Joslin Diabetes Center, which is affiliated with Harvard Medical School. You can read about that at http://www.drsears.com/drsearspages/zonemondaypage.jsp

If you do decide to follow The Zone, I would reccomend changing your diet gradually and taking the time to learn all about what The Zone really is before you change completely over to The Zone.

I made the mistake of trying to follow The Zone before I understood it completely. I kept having to urinate a lot, and what was really annoying was that I kept waking up in the middle of the night having to urinate(even if I didn't drink any fluids several hours before I went to bed). I was eating the 40-30-30 ratio that I described earlier, but after re-reading Enter The Zone I realized that the number of calories that I was eating was a lot more than I needed based on my lean body mass and activity level. I also noted that Dr. Sears reccomends that athletes should eat twice as much fat as protein. So now I still eat the 4 to 3 ratio of carbs to protein, but after I've had the reccomended amount of carbs and protein I eat plenty of healthy fats until I am full(the fat sources are mainly the healthy monounsaturated kind like nuts and olive oil) and I've been urinating a lot less.

I exercise off and on. I don't really consider myself to be an "Athlete" at this point, athough I'd really like to be more consistent in working out. But following the dietary reccomendations for Athletes seems to work better for me.

I hope I did a decent job in explaining this in a way that makes sense. If not, you can post questions and I'll try to answer them. Try not to flame me

A bump for the fact I have lost 75 pounds since Oct. 1, 2004. :)

I love how psychological changes precipitate and potentiate physical changes, and vice versa.

Congrats, Aeon!

Make sure you're getting the right amounts of protein and stuff. I've known rapid weight loss to sometimes cause serious health problems.

Darn. Since doc put me on insulin instead of pills (that never worked for me) for my type II diabetes, I've put back ALL the weight I'd lost in the last year or so (30lbs). Doc says this is normal. However, I feel MUCH better these days so I can't complain.....

Can't win can ya?! :(

Guess I'll have to hit the gym at last...

Hello everybody

My name is Gustavo and I'm a fat maggot.

I was 230 a couple of months ago. I was scared to see how f*cking fat I got and NOT noticing it. I started a slight dieting process and today started -after losing several pounds and feeling lighter- an exercises routine.

I will let you know the results...

BTW I want to congratulate David Bryce. Our friend has lost some weight, looking great. :thu:

Holy Guacamole, Senor Zorro...you weighed more than I did!!! How tall are you, 6'5" or something? You don't show the porkiness...

I am trying to get back on my "Mr. Fatso" regimen following my trip to England. Traveling always packs the pounds on me.

I have another problem with my weight loss. I always lose excessive weight exactly in areas where I don't particularly want to lose it...mainly my face. I lose too much weight, my face starts looking gaunt...while meanwhile I still have the spare tire and man-boobs I want to lose.

Suggestions? I suppose there aren't any :(

THAT was exactly my BIG problem.

Of course I don't look "thin" but I don't think I looked like a 230er... which I am :(

I was a weight lifter several years ago... my back is too damn wide and my legs still might compete in any Mr bla bla event... but I did not realize how f*cking fat I actually am... until two weeks ago... so, I'm working hard to lose some extra weight and try to look better on stage and my upcoming band's video clips.

I hope everyone is doing well with their goals.

I am still losing weight to be sure, but it has slowed a little, so I have started to increase my exercise regimen (and caloric intake to compensate).

All the previous weight loss was done through intake modification. ;) In general, I was eating ~1200 calories a day, broken into 30/40/30 carbs, proteins, fats.

The thing I am most pleased with is that I do not feel deprived at all. I still eat anything I like - I just eat less of it, or less often.

Eat less...move more! It really is just that simple! :)

The question is..."how much do you really want to succeed?" ;)

cheers,

Ian

My ride stats from yesterday morning:

Distance: 29.4 km

Time: 58:27

Average speed: 30.2 kph

Max speed: 64.1 kph

I've successfully lost all of the blubber I accumulated by way of the suppliments. I'm back down to my normal 185-ish lbs.

Also, my gut has shrunken slightly, and my pecs seem to be protruding a bit more these days: YAY for push-ups and ab crunches!

The love handles are unchanged...... :D

Cheers!

Spencer

When you lose body fat, you lose from all over the body. I think it is very typical about the face becoming much thinner.

I'm still losing weight.

the first six weeks went great then I started cheating (but still losing weight) for the next couple of months. I gave myself a reward of a new bow if stayed under 1000 calories a day whenever possible and it's given me my second wind (ok, so I bought my new bow before I met my goal of losing 40 lbs. but I needed to practice before archery season).

Don't know what I weigh at this moment but even my old pants are too big for me now :-)
