Distinguished fellow bassists, I need your help!

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I've been lurking for awhile and seems like a great group of talented players who try and help each other out. I need your help. I've made it a goal to earn an audition for a slot with one of these 70's/80's "revived" bands... you know the kind I'm talking about: maybe one or two original members in the band, using "The Name". I know, there are better goals, but I've been playing about 18 years, on and off the road in cover bands and this is what I am looking to do. As it is, I'm just doing "hired gun", local cover gigs and playing in a regular cover band nowdays, but I *did* put about 10 years in on the road (covers, of course). Anyway, I keep hearing that to earn a tryout with one of these "comeback bands", I need to contact these types of bands' management agencies and let them know I exist. I hear I need to send them a promo pack of myself. Any other tips by the way, are greatly appreciated regarding the attainment of my goal. Here's what I'm hoping some of you will do for me (other than giving me tips on how to reach my goal): My regular cover band has done some mp3 demos for prospective venues to be able to listen to. I'm under the impression I need to either send a CD recording or links to some mp3's to these management companies. My hope is that some of you can give a listen to these cover demos (there are about a half dozen or so) and: A) Tell me which ones I should include in my promo pack - B) Tell me which ones I should NOT include in my promo pack - C) Tell me if I shouldn't include ANY of them in my promo pack - D) Tell me if I am not ready to try out for gigs of this magnitude - Please, be brutally honest with me because I am very serious about this goal. I've actually played with a few of these types of artists here and there over the years and I truly felt I was an equal showman and musician, but that's a biased opinion of course. Last but not least, all songs were recorded live in the studio (drums and bass) and I was playing a 4001v63 Rickenbacker (fingerstyle plucking), going direct into the board on all cuts. I await any tips, comments, suggestions, etc. Thank you in advance, and God Bless, and for God's sake, rock ON! K.K.

 WTF?, i click on "Distinguished fellow bassists, I need your help!" it takes me to Wager47's "how to reduce spam emails thread" i hit reply, the title bar says: "Distinguished fellow bassists, I need your help! » Post A Reply ", yet in the preview window below, i see Wager's original thread. point being, i have no idea where this post is gonna end up, it's like some space-time continueum(ok, i can't spell) wormhole that has been opened that has sucked Wager47's thread into the belly of what appears to be a calling for fellow bassists  i am confused (suprised?)

I pulled this thread up and had no problem (interesing posts, though...). I'm not qualified to help you (this past weekend I played my first bar gig in 20 years). Two thoughts - Post on the Bass forum to find more distinguished bassists. There are some real pros there. I didn't see any link to your stuff - add that in so people can find your material easily. Good Luck !!!! Tom
