Sonar very very strange problem-help

Recommended Posts

this might sound silly to you guys but i've been testing out a sound blaster audigy card with sonar, (i know iknow) i will actually be picking up an audiophile 2496 later today the thing is that since last night every time i arm a track in sonar and start recording to that track it records the master out audio, kind of like resampling it self. in sonar for the track imputs and out puts i only have audigy left, audigy right, and audigy stereo, available for input and out put. since i have a mackie 1202vlz connected to the audigy i always select audigy stereo in, and audigy stereo out does anybody know why its' doing this, it's definately in sonar, because i've disconnected the mackie, imported a beat loop to track one of sonar and then armed track 2 with nothing plugged into the card and just press record and track 2 will record the output of track 1. any help would be grately appreciated- -Naw

..without having a closer look, here's a consideration. Somewhere in Sonars'/windows audio options, I've seen a 'monitor live inputs' (aka -full duplex)choice. If this option is chosen, make sure your port inputs on sonar's main screen are set to none or internal while playing back internal (resident to PC) tracks. My guess is you are getting some kind of monitor loop making its way to the inputs again? -or set up indiv. audigy l & r inputs & make sure your track one balance is far left on the pan slider and track 2 is far right while recording? um, thats all the guesses I have. Dunno if you tried this or not.. but one thing you might want to check your windows mixer... click on the little yellow speaker next to the clock.. or run the volume control app. Select Options from the menu, then properties.. and click on recording. Along the bottom of the mixer panel are check boxes.. make sure you have yours set for line in. On some sound cards.. you can select a "what you hear" option... which routes the output back into the input.

thanks Hippie, i tried it but it did'nt work, i checked those options and the full duplex was not selected. so i selected it and got a massive feedback loop but i was prepared and had my mixer vollume down, this is just the weirdest thing, every time i arm track 2 and press record you caN SEE THE meter on track two going along with the meter in track one and recording what is on track one. is there a way that i could have pressed some type of bounce command without knowing it, i don't think so. thanks anyway though and if you happen to get any other ideas about this please post'em, I was going to get the audiophile 2496 card, but i want to figure this out before i do so so that i know whether it's sonar or the Audigy and if anybody else wants to chime in i'm all ears don't be shy ;) peace- Naw

what's up mitch thanks for responding man we must have been posting at the same time, i checked the windows settings like you said, and under recording the boxes that were check marked were mic, and line in, there was a "what you hear" box listed but it was not check marked.

Naw, You said at one time this was working properly, so it stands to reason something has changed. You may want to uninstall Sonar & re-install to get the templates (.tpl's) and parameters back to their factory configs. -It doesn't take too long to reload. After uninstall, go into windows and make sure there aren't any sonar/cakewalk *.ini's still left lying around. Matt
Originally posted by Nawledge: yea Matt the thing that changed was getting the Audigy card
Naw, I have Sonar loaded on my laptop w/crappy onboard sound and no trouble (relatively speaking), it must be something other than the card itself. Now, this isn't a mono (1 channel) card is it? -Or, make sure it is not set to mono, if you have the option. -Have you checked the Cakewalk website for compatibility issues with the card? Matt

It's worth a look. - Philbo Tangent Studios

Nawledge, You might want to check out the Sonar Newsgroup since you seem to have a lot of questions about the program. For detailed instructions for accessing this site check out this page . There a lot of experienced user's there that can provide much quicker support than you'd get by posting here or anywhere else on the web.
