Coad Posted November 17 Posted November 17 The song “Mountain Range” by the Ozark Mountain Daredevils has an intro where a percussion instrument, I think a conga, need help identifying, creates a sound that I would like to learn the technique of. I have searched internet on this topic with no success. The sound can be described as maybe tension in the drum head is modified to create. If anyone can identify the instrument and technique, please advise. thank you in advance. search for “mountain range by ozark mountain daredevils”
Demonseed Posted November 24 Posted November 24 It’s the same technique as the very end of Eddie Money’s hit Two Tickets To Paradise. To do it, you apply friction to the conga skin with your fingertip as you push your finger from the edge toward the center. Some skins work better for this than others, and if you’ve just done maintenance lubrication of the top of the head it won’t work for awhile.
