Old No7 Posted November 3 Posted November 3 A couple folks asked to see the B3 shell I built on stage -- so here she is from Friday night's gig. I've added a couple of pix and a video link of me channeling some Jon Lord for the organ solo in HUSH. Cheers! cassdad Posted November 8 Posted November 8 What are you using for amplification? Ludwig van Beethoven: “To play a wrong note is insignificant; to play without passion is inexcusable.” My Rig: Yamaha MOXF8 (used mostly for acoustic piano voices); Motion Sound KP-612SX & SL-512; Apple iPad Pro (5th Gen, M1 chip); Apple MacBook Pro 2021 (M1 Max chip).
Lou_NC Posted November 8 Posted November 8 I followed your construction posts and really admire and respect the work that went into this. It does look great on stage! One question though........you're obviously an accomplished woodworker, any particular reason why you didn't stain the wood to more closely duplicate a Hammond console cabinet? Lou

We were connected to the club's FOH system through DI boxes * and with 4 other bands playing that evening and my family & friends there, I never did get the chance to review their equipment much other than seeing they had a large Allen and Heath mixer for control. (* One failed on me in the middle of Nights in White Satin, but they changed it out just before I had to do the flute solo with a voice from the SK Pro.) 21 hours ago, Lou_NC said: I followed your construction posts and really admire and respect the work that went into this. Thanks for your comment. My original plan was to cover it in maple veneer and then stain it, but at 1/32" thick (or should I say "thin"?!), I figured it would not stand up very well to the rigors of the road and being transported. With the "Hammered Black" spray paint, any touch ups of nicks or scratches will be easy to do. As it's a shell, I wanted the "illusion" of a real B3 console and because there's a seam where the top & bottom join, I figured that the black would hide that better from 20' feet away. I'll admit that when you get up close, you can see a few small flaws in my work, and those too are hidden better by the black paint. Overall though, I've always associated big, bold and all-black Hammonds as being "rock organs" -- just like Don Airey uses in Deep Purple (I saw them live 6 weeks ago!) -- and that's the look I was going for.
