Teddington Electric Piano

or eighty eight

Recommended Posts

Bit of a long shot perhaps. I am travelling from Ireland to a relative's birthday party in Teddington. They have asked me to play a little (some solo, some sing song). Naturally I can't bring my piano. So, does anyone know where an 88 key (or slightly less) Electric piano could be borrowed? Say from a local school, church, community centre.

Or if there is a hire place for such I can ask the birthday boy if there's a budget for this. The piano could be something like a Casio Privia, Yamaha P120 type for example. Would need in built speakers.

Thank you.

OP should be posting this highly localized bs on craigslist. It's like me coming on here tomorrow and posting "Hey international keyboard forum posters! I forgot my powerstrip in the Acacia ballroom at the Conrad, anyone see it?"

Dislike is because the post is clearly inappropriate in this forum. An off-topic disclaimer, at the very least, should have been posted in the thread title.

One thought occurs to me. If you mean Teddington, London, there are a few pianos listed on Facebook Marketplace within a mile or two. For example, there's a Roland Go Piano 88 with stand and stool for £200 in Hampton. You could perhaps ask if the owner would be willing to rent you the instrument or, failing that, purchase it and then ask your relative to resell it for you after the event.

I am not interested in any of your comments. I was sent here from another forum. I'll be on my way back there for some manners

Are you travelling by air or will you be taking the ferry and driving? I ask because if you are coming anywhere near Wales, I have a Kawai ES110 that I'd be happy to lend to a careful forum member.

My brother…there have been no shortage of backline/rental search threads here for years. And they’re not generally marked OT - because they’re not. I’ve been here since 2016 and seen plenty of them, and from pros at that. Maybe check the forum history before acting like the gatekeeper…it takes guts to come in as a newish member and try to run the place…at least get to know the room first.

I had a gig in the Savoy, central London a few years ago. I rented a Nord. Was very expensive though. Luckily I didn’t have to pay as was a corporate gig. I’m sure most backline companies will drop to places in and around London. Studiohire I think was the name of the place I rented from.

@or eighty eight I'm London based, but don't have anything suitable that I could release. (I'd love to do a brother a favour with a U, but this isn't it sadly).

A quick google suggests plenty of possible places to rent something for c. £50 per day. Otherwise as @voxpops suggested buy something and return it or sell it on?

EDIT https://www.hillsounduk.com/pages/rentals Hillsound look like a little independent shop, local to Teddington - worth a phone call?

Cheers, Mike.

Thanks, someone needs to moderate because things can go south quickly on a forum if spam, bots, and OT posts go unchecked. A few other music forums have become virtually unusable due to the high noise ratio.

I do totally agree when it comes to spam and bots, and have done my share of reporting when things have slipped by. I feel like we're generally pretty good about keeping that under control here, unlike some places that have definitely lost it (Motifator comes to mind, sadly). I don't necessarily think the OT posts are as much of an issue...yeah, sure, when we have a bunch of parody threads, the front page can temporarily get clogged, but those drop off pretty quickly.

In this specific case I really don't see it as an OT post...very localized, yes, although we do have a fair number of UK folks who are pretty active here. We've definitely had members who are way more established than either of us are post backline requests or ask for suggestions for places to rent gear when touring, so to me this thread wouldn't appear to be crossing over into the OT realm. Certainly not to the degree where I'd label it "clearly inappropriate" or "bs". That just doesn't help anyone at the end of the day.

I agree with this viewpoint and would add that a little humor doesn't go amiss from time to time as well. Sometimes, particularly when there's no new information to be had about a subject under discussion, threads will veer off into a little comedy. It doesn't hurt anyone and allows us to remember not to take ourselves too seriously. Threads also tend to take a new direction after a while - like this one - because someone has been motivated to yank the steering wheel. In this case, it was someone objecting to the whole nature of the thread that dragged it off topic.

To those who were kind enough to advise and help, thank you. The venue had a very very basic keyboard and a sing song was had, keeping many people happy.

I'm not sure if someone said I was trying to "run the place". My first post, asking to help somebody out. Throughout my life I have provided equipment to help people out, In professional situations I have provided employment to more people than some can imagine. And before you say it, I'm not seeking any praise - I just want to make it clear to some who might suggest I'm a cheapskate of sorts etc. There's certainly 1 person your forum could do without and I'm behind them on the list. My first time experience here? Some odd people, some kind & helpful. Welcome to the internet, some people's lack of happiness is not my concern . . .

Welcome - glad the party turned out well for you, and I hope you decide to stay around!

re: ignore. I’ve found that setting to ignore someone doesn’t really do the trick (making them disappear). Instead, you’ll get a statement that you have chosen to ignore this or that person, which only serves to pique your curiosity in what they’ve “said now” and chances are, you’ll click on it. I’ve found it better to filter views for myself, or just let it go. These cynical, negative personalities tend to get bored with the lack of attention and move on.
