OT - any other elders like this stuff as a kid?

Yup...I remember my Dad coming home one day with a cardboard sub that was similar, by not quite as fancy as the one above. I was quite young. (Have two older brothers.)

Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea was airing round that time...I think (that was a long time ago!)

Darling pet monkey, eh? Boy, is that ever an invitation to violate the religion & politics rule. Remember, you have to diaper the creature or, well, you know.... What a way to wreck a Saturday evening, chasing a wild monkey through your house with a broom.

I just emptied out my swear jar and bought a CS-80.

My Dad bought me a cardboard mockup of John Glenn's Mercury space capsule

When I was about three or four, my parents bought me my own house!

It was made out of cardboard and had an opening for the front door and an opening for a window, and you had to get in and out of it by crawling.  It did have a nice design printed on the outside with a "cottage" theme to it.

They make a version for adults, too.  It is called a manufactured home.

🤣

I remember those ads.....  But as kids we were forbidden form ordering anything.  My parents apparently thought for sure that they were scams.

However there was a toy store in town that sold a lot of that stuff.  I had the bullet hole decals, fake vomit and faux-spilled beer with can.  I thought that stuff was hilarious!

Ah, fake vomit, the last stage before you graduate to booze and the real thing. Its also a weird rite of passage to consider the last use to which you'll put that. Its been a fun game for many years, because I have colorful friends.

One sent me a very dessicated lizard in a clear jewel case for Christmas. The tag read "You need this! Merry Reptile!"

Another sent a Keebler promo thingie of one elf holding a cookie and another wielding a brush, splattering it- and his fellow elf- with fudge from a bucket. Carefully labeled on the bucket, my friend had inscribed "FECES." My crowd has always embraced things that made you feel slightly guilty for laughing at them. 😁

Hey Tom, there's literally a Darling Pet Monkey entry. Its horrific, but the company sent wild live ones through the mail for several years. I'm sure that triggered quite a few emergency family meetings. 😱

Yep. Irwin Allen was a cheesy sci-fi homeboy back then. I loved the recycled "computers" and oversized props from "Land of the Giants."

Bill Maher said "I'm all for inclusion, but lately, every show has a trans teenager on it but reruns of 'Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea.'" 😛

As a child, I was never impressed by those ads and thought they were ridiculous.

However, a trip to Toys R Us was like going to Disneyland.😁😎

My husband had some rubber fake poop that I still keep even now that he is passed on.

I am sure it will come in handy for those unwanted political campaign and religious people who come to the door.  Correctly placed a fair enough distance from the door that they will think twice about stepping over it to knock.
