EscapeRocks
I purchased a new Yamaha CK88 to add to my stockpile, because I wanted to I used it for the first time this past weekend. I used my KeyLargo as mixer/DI. My iPad on that stand is wireless to the mixer and I'm using Mixstation to mix my ears. The two boards complemented each other very nicely. It was a perfectly lightweight rig. The real time labeled control knobs on the CK, as well as the nine draw-bars made it fun to play. I have them MIDI to each other. The CK allows you to set up each of it's parts to be Internal only when you play it. External only, so it only get trigger by top board, or a combination. You can also place it into advanced SW mode in which you can have up to 4 parts sent externally, specifying MIDI channel, key range, transmit or not all the usual parameters. You can actually go quite deep into the configurations. For organ parts, I had one patch that used both board as Upper and Lower manual, with the tone coming from the CK. Upper manual the CK was set to external only. Lower manual was set to CK only, with different tones. FYI, you can also set the draw bars and knobs to transmit CC data. I did this on one song to control Cutoff on the MODX from one slider on the CK. Anyway, it was a fun gig, and the CK is just fine. 2 Quote David Gig Rig:Yamaha CK88 | Roland Jupiter
Sam Mullins
Nice. My rig is currently CK88 + Arturia keylab 2 + Mac/MainStage. I’ve recently thought about going back to all hardware with Modx8+ and Arturia. But what you have above might be better. I really like the UI on the CK88. Easy to get basic things set up. 1 Quote Yamaha CK88, Arturia Keylab 61 MkII, Moog Sub 37, Yamaha U1 Upright, Casio CT-S500, Mac Logic/Mainstage, iPad Camelot, Spacestation V.3, QSC K10.2, JBL EON One Compact www.stickmanor.com There's a thin white line between fear and fury - Stickman
The Piano Man
I like everything about the CK, except the inability to route sounds to different outputs (even just a basic pan setting for each layer would do it!) Without that, I cannot see me getting a CK88. It’s a shame because the UI is excellent, the piano sounds are excellent with nice variety including an excellent U1 upright. All other sounds are more than decent too. 1 Quote Kurzweil PC3x Technics SX-P50 Korg X3
