czjohn
As a 30 year-old user of Finale, the news is very sad indeed. Having reviewed Dorico 3, 3.5, and 4.0, I can say without reserve that it's a solid program that will meet the needs of anyone who charts and arranges. With that said, there are a number of us "old dogs" who will have to learn new tricks. I'm interested in hearing your thoughts on this development! Paul Vnuk Jr.
I think the part that I find the most shocking is them saying that after a certain period of time, you will no longer be allowed to install or authorize this software. So basically, not only are they saying hey we’re closing up shop, they’re saying hey you can’t even use our software after the fact anymore. That’s a very bold decision. czjohn
Some users have proposed that MakeMusic should allow for Finale to transition to open-source in order to allow the community to continue the product and for its enhancement. At this point I would say it’s a no-go as there is a strong financial incentive provided for existing users to switch, but it’s an interesting idea nonetheless.
