Performance advice for electric duo needed

Recommended Posts

I am planning for a duo live act keys and sax. We will play some electric funky jazz and smooth jazz.
I am searching for a tool to manage everything except the sax parts 😉

I would like to be able to stay flexible, change drum loops, effects and other tracks/loops on the fly while playing keys and left hand bass.
I know many pieces of gear that could do the job (Akai lineup, Loopers - I own a RC505, Ableton, …) but I am primarily interested in how you are approaching  this kind of performance.
How much preparation is necessary? Do you like to have multiple hardware instruments playing with MIDI or is audio loops the way to go?

thanks and have a nice day!

I have been using Korg arranger keyboards since 2009. Currently have a PA4x76.  It is extremely flexible and provides an all in one box tool.

if you have an iPad you can use an app.

this one replaces the brain of an arranger keyboard as suggested above.

You can use the virtual drummer in Garage Band or Logic for iPad and lay out your song forms.

Or you can use an app like iReal Pro and turn off all instrumentation but the drums.

I’ve seen other solutions too that load up your own premade backing tracks (wav, mp3) with set lists and such.  You have to do a bit of searching on the App Store.
