New Studio! I Finally Did It!

Recommended Posts

I signed the lease yesterday. 640 glorious square feet of studio space!

It was an audio/video suite previously, so its already fully soundproofed. The guy divided it up into 5 rooms:

The front lobby/entry room is about 8x15.

The main room is about 15x15.

The control room is about 13x15.

And the back room, which will double as a vocal booth/amp room is about 7x12.

It has 12 foot ceilings and central air. There is no window between the main room and control room but that can come later. Im currently sharing it with a band to keep the rent down until I can get the clients coming in regularly.

I'd love to post some pictures of it but I dont have any web space yet. If anyone has anywhere I could throw up some pics temporarily please PM me. I'd love to get some comments.

Congratulations duhduh! No matter what happens you are your own boss and it will an interesting ride.

I'm looking at renting a small studio space for teaching guitar in and it's easy to get cold feet about it. You took the plunge. You should feel proud.

What's your business model? Who is your market? What can you offer that other studios can't?

:thu: Good luck with the studio.

In response to Lance's last post regarding the question "What can you offer that other studios can't?", the best advice I can give you (not that you asked ;) ) is "yourself". It is the one thing that differentiates your studio from all the others.

"What's your business model?" and "Who is your market?" are also excellent questions, and hopefully you've already fully considered them in complete detail... if not, that should be the VERY first thing you do. :)

As far as what I plan to offer: Phil said it.

Myself.

As far as my market, well, whomever will pay me money to record them! Seriously, for right now its gonna be just that. Hopefully, though, as my abilities improve and my reputation improves I'll be able to raise my rates and be more selective.

Its already going well. I told you guys about the album I did for the label. You know, the one with the shitty mastering. And Im just finishing up another project for a band that just got picked up for a major label tour (support act).
