Printing directly onto CD blanks

Recommended Posts

Do you have to have a special printer to do this or does it work with any inkjet? Yeah, I just looked at my HP. It wouldn't work. The paper makes a curved path. I guess some printers, the paper stays flat or something and the print head moves over it.

I'm wanting to print labels. Might just have to buy CD labels with adhesive backs. Any cautions?

You need a printer designed to do it. Epson sells one for less than $100. I use it, and it works very well - sharpness and color far superior to labels, with none of the problems of melting adhesive if you leave it in your car CD player on a summer day.

That printer sounds very reasonable but for the few I have to do, it's not in the cards at this time. I just need to do, oh, a dozen at a time from time to time and I don't care about it being perfect.

I wouldn't have purchased one either except that my then-current printer died. As I was looking for a new one, I saw this one... in addition to its excellent capabilities, it's VERY quiet.

Coyote-- Do you have a model number by chance-- And is the quality good enough for say, a demo reel to be sent around, not necessarily a commercial release? Thanks!

Yeah that's the one. The print quality is definitely good enough for a demo CD, and even for your own 'production' CD if you only plan on small quantities.
