Heart’s Nancy Wilson, one of the first prominent female guitar players in hard rock, is preparing to sell her gear on Reverb. Since the ‘70s, Wilson has been one of the world’s most celebrated shredders—thanks to hit songs like “Barracuda,” “Crazy On You,” “All I Wanna Do Is Make Love to You,” and more, she's left a lasting mark on music.

In partnership with Definitive Authentic, she’s now passing on the gear she’s used along the way in The Official Nancy Wilson of Heart Reverb Shop, which opens October 19.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Famer’s shop will be full of rare, vintage, and prototype guitars that have been played all over the world. There are workhorse acoustics, oddities she’s picked up during her career, and plenty of well-used electrics.

Among the gear the shop will include is a Gibson SG from the late ‘60s—this guitar became Wilson's ax of choice for live versions of “Barracuda.” It also became well known by Heart fans for the two Marine Corps stickers on the back.

Along with the SG, the shop also includes:

A 1957 Fender Stratocaster that’s been on stages around the world. “It’s got all the good dirt in the sound of it from the ‘50s,” said Wilson. “There’s something about the older models that have that dirty sound. It’s because they’re all grown up and are big characters.”

A Late 70’s David Petschulat mini Les Paul, which is only one of several made according to Wilson. “It’s very teeny tiny. It was on stage with me, and Howard Leese has had one too. It’s also the star of the cover of Heart’s album Greatest Hits Live.”

A 1980s Paul Reed Smith 12-string prototype with a dragon inlay that Wilson claims is one-of-a-kind. “This is one of the coolest guitars I’ve ever owned,” she said. “It came with me all over the [latest] Heart Tour. I played the first song of the tour of this guitar, ‘Rockin’ Heaven Down.’”

A Duncan Quattro from the mid ‘80s that accompanied Wilson during many stadium shows. “During certain songs it was on a stand that I played along with a keyboard part,” she said. “On other songs, it was the all-purpose dive-bombing ‘80s-style guitar.”

A TV Jones Spectrasonic with a red and white finish with a Bigsby vibrato that, according to Wilson, was also often used to play “Barracuda” live frequently.

The Official Nancy Wilson of Heart Reverb Shop is now open.

I certainly hope a lot of those guitars make good money. I wish I had a Reverb account...

The very first one I did a search for was her TV Jones Spectra Sonic- and immediately, the very first posted sale of it was apparently a fraud! Before I could report it, it was flagged as "Suspended"- so it seems the scam was recognized pretty quickly; at least, in the time it took for me to bring up the actual, legitimate Reverb sale page for that guitar.

The fraudster had used the same photo images and copied and pasted the same text from the legitimate page on Reverb! What dirtbags... !!

By the way, 'FWIW', the description "
with a red and white finish" is a bit inaccurate; it appears to have a reddish-brown stain over maple and mahogany, and the large, stylized pickguard is white. 'FWIW'.

Here's her genuine listing of that guitar:

I saw Heart a long time ago. Roger Fisher was gone and Howard Leese was trying (and failing) to fill some rather large shoes.

I wouldn't call Nancy a "shredder" but she was a great fingerpicker and all around support guitarist. If they'd had a real lead player instead of Howard, they would not have needed him. Nancy also sang lead on one of my favorite Heart songs, These Dreams. She's a winner in my book.

Not sure why she chose Reverb? The paradigm there is that you post a price and people make offers. You'll never get more than your posting price. I've sold on there a few times, has always been a good experience. Any item that can garner more attention and is universally lusted for, I've used the eBay auction format, see below.

On the other hand, eBay has the same percentage as Reverb for guitars (only) and you can put up auctions. I've done that many times, if you start below one dollar the bids will pour in. A 10 day auction starting on Thursday and ending on the Sunday just after the second payday can do surprisingly well and I've never had it fail. The first paycheck is rent and bills, not good. Second paycheck is when people have discretionary funds. Timing is everything as well, Novembers have been good for me in general so Nancy nailed that part of the equation. After X-mas can be briefly good, then everything dies until tax refunds come in. Summer usually isn't very good.

And there is your tip for the day, how to get the most return when you sell items that are generally desirable. She'll do well, she has the celebrity to do well. I'll just say that there is a reason so many guitar sellers prefer to use an auction format. LOTS of wealthy potential buyers out there for a piece from her collection, make them fight for it!!!!

It took a chunk of my life to get here and I am still not sure where "here" is.
