Ivan May Posted October 22, 2022 Posted October 22, 2022 While they were generally regarded in America as a "one hit wonder", Ace was a pretty good pop rock band rom England in the Seventies. The group was led by Paul Carrack, a keyboardist, singer and songwriter from Sheffield, guitarists Bam King and Phil Harris, bassist Terry Tex Comer and Irish drummer Fran Byrne, who replaced Supertramp drummer Bob Siebenberg in the pub rock combo Bees Make Honey. Their debut, Five A Side, was released in 1974, and contained the bands only major hit, How Long, which made #3 in 1975, and was also a huge hit in Canada and in England. But I recently bought the Ace album at an auction last week, and I must say, their other songs, such as Sniffin About, are pretty good. And so was Rock and Roll Runaway. The group split in 1977, but Paul Carrack went on to become a keyboardist and vocalist for the likes of The Eagles, The Pretenders, Squeeze and Roxy Music. If you like Ace then feel free to comment. They are a good band. Quote
