RABid Posted October 8, 2022 Posted October 8, 2022 I do most of my posting from Apple and Safari and I have to say, Apple has the worst spell check of the big three companies. (Apple, Microsoft and Google) My spelling is horrible, and as I get older my typing is degenerating. I need good spell checking. Frequently I have to open Google and use it to find correct spelling. Apple sometimes has trouble with the simplest mistakes. For example, paradime. The only suggestion I get from apple is paradise. Google immediately finds paradigm. Is there an alternative spell checker that can be installed on Mac to take over for Apple's sad routine? Quote This post edited for speling. My Sweetwater Gear Exchange Page

[annoyed grunt] I see so much stuff about "damn you autocorrect" etc. on iOS that I thought that's what he was talking about, missing where he specifically said "Mac." However, I do believe that some elements are similar. For instance, in System Preferences, under Keyboard, the Text replacements will be shared between iOS and Mac if you use the same iCloud account. Here is a more appropriate article. The section about Training Mac autocorrect might be particularly useful. Also the linked article about "How to edit your Mac's dictionary." https://www.macworld.com/article/672431/how-to-fix-autocorrect-errors-on-iphone-ipad-mac.html Quote "I'm so crazy, I don't know this is impossible! RABid Posted October 10, 2022 Author Posted October 10, 2022 I think the big problem is Mac has not coded any phonic recognition and substitution routines in the spell check logic. It seems to be a simple letter matching logic that scans a dictionary to see if any words are one letter away from matching. Microsoft and Google seem to do phonic matching of syllables, and maybe even regional variances of dialect. Quote This post edited for speling. My Sweetwater Gear Exchange Page
siddharthkmehta Posted October 11, 2022 Posted October 11, 2022 I don't have any idea of that but surely there will be....... Quote
KuruPrionz Posted October 12, 2022 Posted October 12, 2022 https://writingissues.com/spelling-check-on-mac/ The link above recommends Grammerly. I didn't notice if it costs anything. Second choice is Ginger. Open Office is free and runs on Mac. It has a version of each product in the Microsoft suite including a version of Word. They have their own names but Microsoft now includes the option to open the Open Office files in their software, it has become that popular. I have it and use it when I want to create documents. Type your post in that, let it spell check you and then copy and paste into the interwebz. Quote It took a chunk of my life to get here and I am still not sure where "here" is.
