We headlined the first night of Grapefest in Grapevine, Texas this past Thursday night

I figured this would be a good a night as any for my new MODX+, so I spent the last week programming it, and the Fantom to work with each other.   As I mentioned in the other drawn out MODX thread, the excellent control capabilities of the Fantom, combined with the deep editing, and especially the Superknob on the MODX+, made for great sonic possibilities.

I will do a complete write-up of what I have found on the MODX+ compared to my old MODX that I sold, in another topic.

Just a couple things to note: as you know, the MODX/MODX+ reserve slots 9-16 to be controlled externally.  I never really made much use of that since I usually had  a bottom board that did not support sending 16 discrete MIDI channels.

Enter the Fantom-08, which can send 16 channels.  Each of the 16 can be assigned to EXT, INT, or BOTH

In this use case, I used my Fantom as the Master, as far as selecting the programs, and I make use of the 'Chain Mode' for gigs.

Selecting the scene on the Fantom called up the proper program on the MODX+

Having the Fantom meant I could leave the MODX+ in Multi Mode, instead of single.  More on that in my write up thread.

Here's a brief snippet someone caught on their iPhone that night.   In this, I am using the the MODX+ CFX Concert Piano and a touch of the MOX+ CP80 Chorus EP.  The Fantom is providing a little 'Ragtime Piano'.    All tones were adjusted, layered, and EQ'd

David,

Man that sounds really great, from the patch to the whole band. You guys do it right.

So in this config - is it just Fantom and MODX+? Or are you still running MainStage in addition to hardware based sounds?

Tim, thank you very much.
This night it was strictly the hardware boards. No Mainstage.

Sounds great David. We may be heading to Dallas next month to visit our daughter for a week or so. Hopefully I'd love to catch one of your shows. I'll PM you when I know the dates and get your show schedule.
Keep up the great work. I've got a MODX7 that has been giving me problems. Thinking about the MODX8+ and then selling the MODX7 after getting it repaired. Been doing it all with just the MODX7 for about a year now.
Still haven't gotten it set up with Mainstage using the MO as an audio interface. Got a few weeks off and will try to make that happen! You know I'll hit you up with questions! lol

Sounds great David! Thanks for sharing. Looks like a fun gig.

I've been using the CFX in the CP4 for years and more recently in the YC73 and P515. I assume it's the same basic sound across Yamaha's pro keyboards (like the MODX+). Great sounding piano!
