Then nod... Then yield to he who pays for the mix (the producer, perhaps). (you can also turn up a knob (that actually has no function) and ask, "Is that better?") If nobody is paying for the session (i.e. you're involved in a group project), then handle it any way you please. If, in this kind of situation, you are not finding any satisfaction, it may be time to take your bat & ball and go home.
