CyberGene Posted September 13, 2022 Posted September 13, 2022 I'm waiting for my Jupiter-XM to arrive at Thomann in a few weeks and be shipped to me then, and as a good boy started familiarizing myself with the manuals. I see the following terms: scene, part, tone, partial, oscillator, model, wave, tone bank. So, correct me if I'm wrong, and I'm not sure if those are ZEN-Core universal or are just something specific to the Jupiter-Xm but I see things these way: - A scene is a combination of multiple parts - A part contains a single tone (?) which is the sound you hear for that part - A tone is made of up to 4 partials. The tone is the set of parameters that determine the sound. - The tone can be from a single model (?), either one that is modeled to emulate an existing vintage synth or a generic one, although I'm not sure if there's something like a generic model, see below. - A partial is either a wave (in case the tone is of a PCM-based model such as the XV and RD) or an oscillator (in case the tone is from a VA-model such as the preloaded vintage models, such as the Jupiter, Juno, JX, SH) - A model is a set of predefined filters, mathematically calculated oscillator shapes, envelopes, etc. (?) with limitations that would emulate the real hardware, such as the number of oscillators Not sure if I'm right so far, but with that understanding in mind, can I somehow create a freeform tone from a generic model that combines oscillators/partials from different other models or freely selectable types? I see that for example there is a Moog and a Prophet-5 filter and I'm wondering where I can use those? Can I for example apply a Moog filter to the Jupiter model. If not, what model can I apply those to? I also see that there are tone banks with names such as "PR-A", "PR-B", "PR-C", "PR-D", "COMMON", "VOCODER", "PR-X" and I'm wondering what those are? Are they PCM-samples and to what model I can use them as partials? Can I mix them freely, for instance create a tone that has all 4 partials from PR-A? Or the first partial should be PR-A, the second one PR-B, etc?, assuming PR stands for partial? Quote
