Cases for Hammond SKX

CEB

Recommended Posts

I want a relatively light hard case with wheels for my SKx.  I just got off the phone with Wade Thomas from Thomas Case Company. They have built in my opinion the finest pedal steel cases in the world for the last 55 years.  Wade built my case for my MSA D10. He could easily cut and build a plush lined wheeled case for the Hammond. But he hasn’t done anything case related in two years.  He can’t get hardware. Also the plywood is horrible quality and outrageously expensive.  The plywood is not getting enough kiln time and arrives still wet and will not stay straight in storage.    He will call me if anything changes. Big problem is pedal steel is such a small market no supplier is willing to take

on a massive order to become a centralized supplier.  The hinges used in these cases are specialty item so …

Anyone have a line on a wheeled case for an SKx?  Any ideas?   Thanks.

I know you’d like a hard case but the Hammond branded gig bag is a reasonably priced $129.

On the upside in your search for lightweight wheeled hard case.  If it fits the SK2 it seems it will also fit the SKX.

Saw this on eBay.

FWIW... When I had an SK2, I used a wheeled SKB 3i-4719-TKBD 61-Key Wide Keyboard Case.    It was a snug fit vertically when I unscrewed the rubber legs on the bottom of the SK2. I don't know about the SKX.

I've been using one of these for 10 years - works really well and there is room for accessories too:
