ElmerJFudd
https://variety.com/2022/music/news/grammys-2022-winners-list-1235217431/amp/ For those that don’t much pay attention, like me, it’s possible one might find a gem. But you might have to dig through some junk. 1 Quote Yamaha CP88, Casio PX-
Tusker
Thank you for this. I am going to be checking out Kurt Elling's SuperBlue and Esperanza Spaulding's Songwrights Apothecary Lab. Those would likely be my gems. 👍

Mark Zeger
Unless I missed something last night, notable jazz musicians missing from the Grammys memorial segment: - Curtis Fuller - George Mraz - Dr Lonnie Smith - Pat Martino - Slide Hampton - Ron Miles Every award show has significant omissions from this segment and can’t include everyone. The Grammys memorial was very well done with Ben Platt, Cynthia Erivo, Leslie Odom Jr, and Rachel Zegler singing Sondheim. Chick received 2 Grammys last night for jazz instrumental album and solo. Lyle Mays’ posthumously released “Eberhard” received the instrumental composition award.
GovernorSilver
The Grammys led me to check out Jon Baptiste. His Tiny Desk concert included a jazz piano interlude and a melodica solo. Backing band was killer too.
Docbop
I was happy I owned one album that won a Grammy Eliane Elias Mirror Mirror with Chick Corea and Chucho Valdés. I was pulling for Rachel Eckroth in Contemporary Instrumental (what a strange category name) but Taylor Eigsti won and he' quite a pianist. I am a big Esperanza Spalding fan, but to win Jazz Vocal over Gretchen Parlato I didn't like. Best Jazz Solo that was easy to predict it would go to Chick being his last opportunity. Best Jazz Album Ron Carter, Jack DeJohnette and Gonzalo Rubalcaba that's a hell of a lineup really love Gonzalo's playing. I know music is written, recorded and produced by committee these days but really do you need to list everyone involved that's nuts. Trying to read thru the list of nominees and winners takes as long at the show does. They started the show in Vegas as 2:30pm with the non televised awards when did they finish with the televised show? Hope all the people in the house band was wearing Depends. Justin Havu
More mainstream, but it was cool to see Dream Theater win one. By chance I was at Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola one night a while back and Gretchen was up backed by bass, drums, guitar. It was a great set and I bought the album the following morning. I need check out what material she was nominated for in 2021. 1 Quote Yamaha CP88, Casio PX-
analogika
I hear voting was closed before Chick died, so his awards actually did not benefit from the post-mortem good will. 1 Quote The Angels of Libra The Drawbars | off jazz organ trio
Tusker
I'll be checking Gretchen out. The new Chick album too. Yes, need to listen to the Eliane Elias project too. Her rendition of Waltz for Debby is the defining vocal version, for me. Thanks for the reccommendations. 🙏

Sean M. H.
Seeing some familiar names pop up in this thread. I'm a big fan of Gretchen Parlato. She has such a unique instrument/voice--hard to describe really. I like Esperanza too, though I haven't followed her latest couple of projects as closely as Esperanza and Chamber Music Society. Both of those ladies always have some tastey keyboard work too--I believe Tyler Eigsti, who was also mentioned in this thread, played keys on a couple of my favorite Gretchen Parlato albums
Mighty Motif Max
I was quite stoked to see that Emily Bear got the Best Musical Theater Album award. Not as big of a thing as a top pop/rock Grammy (as with most of the good music on that list lol), but I'm happy to see that regardless. The "Unofficial Bridgerton Musical" is entertaining, and was fun to see its progression last year. Emily Bear is a heck of a pianist as well; this album isn't that type of music, but she has some nice jazz chops. Jim Alfredson
Happy to see Christian McBride's tribute to the Jimmy Smith Verve big band years win. I have several friends that played on that one. 1 Quote Keep it greazy! B3tles - Soul Jazz THEO - Prog Rock
