Docbop
Someone needs to give Will Smith the number of a good pimp so he can take some slappin' lessons. Chris Rock was still grinning and joking after that little skibbity pap. Dam alley cat can do better than that.
MAJUSCULE
For those campaigning for the award to be stripped... must be going just as hard, if not much harder, for Polanski and Weinstein to lose theirs, right? 1 Quote Eric Website Gear page

Oscars are all giggles with all the media and chatter this is causing. Usually Oscar night about a day of whining and over for a year, this will keep people talking for a week. I don't fall in that category, but I have to say that I don't see this as a direct comparison. This is basically a trade show. Some guy acted up at the trade show. IMO he should be uninvited from future trade shows run by that organization, and would/should have been escorted out this one, if there weren't "other" considerations in play. If he's professionally exemplary and then goes home and beats his wife, that's not the purview of the trade show. If he starts acting up at other trade shows in the same industry, he should be uninvited from all of them. But it's still up to each organization to decide if they still want to honor the work he does outside of his obnoxious behavior in person. It's not a morals prize, it's just for who played "make-believe" best that year. If people at the trade shows start complaining that his attendance is disruptive, he should still win his sales awards, just not get to show up to accept them. Pete Rose wasn't banned from baseball because he gambled and did mountains of cocaine. He was banned because he gambled on baseball, including games he played in. Had he "only" gambled and done mountains of cocaine, and lets-just-pretend it never made its way into his on-field performance, that would be a different story. Just like if I write a movie, win an Oscar, and then some other thing I wrote is later shown to be plagiarized; that wouldn't be expected to cost me my Oscar for the non-plagiarized work...until and unless it, too, was shown to be inauthentic. Two completely different issues in my mind. Quote Now out! "Mind the Gap," a 24-song album of new material. www.joshweinstein.com

That is true. Unfortunately, violence is the foundation of so many of our problems, whether on the scale of a slap or a war. We all want peace in the world, but I think it starts with peace within ourselves. Post wins The Miss by Miles Award of all Keyboard Corner Forum time. Did Polanski interrupt the ceremony to rape an underaged girl? Did Weinstein interrupt the ceremony to sexually assault anyone? Historically lots of disruptions for political plugging but that is legal in the USA.
ProfD
I'd read through this thread and found some of the comments to be lacking in awareness but that's par for the course in the world we live. As for the b8tch slap heard around the world, IMO, Will Smith was totally wrong. Chris Rock handled that situation like a real G. As a comedian, Chris did his job. From my perch, it was a bad look especially for black men in America. Then, we wonder why the Academy has been white for so long. This certainly doesn't help and only makes acceptance harder. Personally, I do not watch awards shows. I only heard about this situation because it became headline news which I find disturbing too. There has to be other things to concern ourselves with other than rich entertainers acting a fool. Thankfully, as an old man, I've got less time on the planet so I don't have to see and/or concern myself with too many of these societal trainwrecks. However, I would be elated to see human beings do a better job of taking care of each other before my time on the rock is up. 😎 3 Quote PD "The greatest thing you'll ever learn, is just to love and be loved in return."--E. Montunoman 2
So how come it seems to be totally fair game to make jokes about bald men but not bald women?
Docbop
Chris Rock is laughing all the way to the bank for handling Smith's skibbity pap. Read an article yesterday that since the Oscars Rock's ticket sales for his shows have skyrocketed. So appears people are voting with their dollars who they thought handled the situation the best.
