Synthguy
I thot I'd ask the experts how you guys put space in your recordings of direct electronic tracks, so they sit back in a mix like the acoustic parts do. I've used miked speakers and room verbs, tho direct with verb gives the most satisfying reproduction, and miking gives me the proper space. How many other ways are there? Are there magic plugins or boxes? I just got a new PC recording package and am about to embark on a new project, and like all the budding project musicians I like having some of the tools of the pros. I learned a lot just listening to music, tho Craig, Roger Nichols and some of the other masters have provided excellent tips, to which I am forEVER in debt. My sub to EQ is worth it's weight in 456. Or... something like that. :D This keyboard solo has obviously been tampered with!

Synthguy
That's a nice thread. There's an early Weather Report album that had the strangest effect with headphones I've ever heard. There's a recording of fireworks added in at the tail end of the first song, and I swear it sounded like the fireworks were located in my chin. It was the most amazing thing I'd experienced at the time, and this was before any spatialization processing I'm aware of. I listened to it over and over. I use search first, but of course that's a roll of the dice, so I end up relying on the generosity of strangers. ;) Thanks all. This keyboard solo has obviously been tampered with! rEalm
You can do a lot by changing the phase in parts of the song too, although you risk ruining it for mono listeners (are there any left?). rEalm
KenElevenShadows
Space in a mix is most easily accomplished with the arrangement of the actual song, I think.
