Playing "drums" on clickers, clackers and dooley-whackers

Recommended Posts

Some of us are drummers (not me), some of us try anyway (me), some of us use electronic drums or plugins (me) and some of us find out that stuff is all around us that makes interesting percussion sounds (me again).

I've recently been going through the cheap plastic bottles of various sizes at thrift stores, putting the opening up to my ear and tapping on other parts of the bottle to see what tones are in there. I've got 7, 5 and 3 gallon water bottles that all make some nice kick or floor tom substitute sounds. Smaller bottles have some nice tones too, higher pitched. It's fun, it's cheap and you don't have to tune or replace anything (even if you did it won't cost much).

What random items have you used to track percussion parts?

It took a chunk of my life to get here and I am still not sure where "here" is.
