Steve Nathan
I've just been told that Pig Robbins passed away this morning, quietly, in his sleep, the way he'd wished to go. You could not overestimate the influence he had on me as a Country piano player. More than anyone else before or after him, Pig was the player that EVERY other piano player copied. We ALL regularly "borrowed" the style and the licks he invented, though none of us ever felt as fresh as he did playing them. I know I'm at the age where this is expected, and I've never been the most emotional, feeling kind of guy, but this is piercing the armor. Take a listen to George Jone's "Wine Colored Roses" and Mark Knoffler's "Are We in Trouble Now", 2 of my all time favorites. RIP Pig 2 Quote Don't rush me. mynameisdanno
Pig was my absolute favorite. Of course he's on a million things, but he and Dennis Crouch and Kenny Malone (RIP) on Darrell Scott's "Long Ride Home" album are just an unstoppable freight train of funk. Makes me holler every time.
Polkahero
A lot of the classic country piano signature songs that I thought was Floyd Cramer was actually Pig Robbins! ProfD
I don't know much about Country music but I do know Pig Robbins was to Nashville what Professor Longhair was to New Orleans. In his own words: The man laid it down on countless records and became a school for Country piano players. RIP Mr. Robbins. 😎 Quote PD "The greatest thing you'll ever learn, is just to love and be loved in return."--E. Ahbez "Nature Boy"

That Knopfler track is one of my favourites too. Loved what he did all the way back to Patsy Cline. Quote ____________________________________ Rod Here for the gear. davinwv
I saw Gordon Mote break this news on Facebook yesterday, but I hadn't made it back here until today. This one hurts . . . a lot! As a legally blind keyboard player, Pig (and Gordon) are so inspirational to me. Thanks for everything, Pig!
