Talcum

StanC

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

I had often seen guitar players using talcum on their hands and fretboard to eliminate stickiness particularly in hot/humid outdoor venues. I've been reluctant to try that (hands only!) fearing that the powder could still get to the innards of the keyboard(s) and cause problems or damage in some way. Anyone have any experience with this to confirm or dispel my fears?

Thanks for any advice on this!

Stan

These days, for every outdoor gig I bring a tarp, talcum powder, bug spray and sunscreen. Like the bug spray and sunscreen, one application in between sets seems to work just fine. The sax player in the band also makes use of the talcum powder, but says my bug spray is too toxic for her.

For me, I want a little tack for my finger-tips: for very cold dry days, I am licking my finger-tips to get the right feel on the keys. Too much talcum powder on hot humid nights is also uncomfortable. My tackiness "comfort zone" is somewhere in between.

I bring a tarp, a towel and my trusty "rock n roll black" Lesko drying fan to each and every gig. I don't know how I ever gigged without that fan, and it is extra-helpful in this covid day and age to help provide some turbulence. I sweat a lot at most gigs especially the outdoor summer ones here in Fla. The biggest annoyance is dripping sweat so in the hottest weather I don the Loverboy 80s look with wristbands and keep the towel handy like a tennis player :)

I've never tried or thought I needed talc, interesting.

Jeez - I'm serving up softballs like that and nobody wants to swing at it.....

So I made myself a shirt out of push-pins and I thought it looked sharp. Everyone else said it was tacky.

Note pinned to the wallboard: "I'm under a tack".

I got some of those shiny tacks at the hardware store and I like to dance to the sound they make when I throw them on the floor. That's right: I got down to brass tacks.

Did you hear about the guy who put a box of fake push-pins near the bulletin board in the break-room? He's now being investigated for tacks fraud.

Also in the headlines....the boarding house over by the cheese factory blew up. Roomers are flying, and de brie is everywhere.
