topper74

James Taylor was the first person to pop into my head as well...
Me too! Anybody seen his live DVD. Almost like being there. Reminds me, when I was in High School, I had two tix to see him. They were for my girlfriend's birthday. My mother, in a sudden fit of cleaning, threw them away. I'm yet to see him live. Sorry...tangent...I still have issues about that.

Dan South
I'll jump on the JT bandwagon. Also, Pete Townshend. Daniel Lanois performs like this sometimes; I heard an except of one of his live shows on NPR, and it was quite good. The trick is that it has to be someone who sing AND plays well. How about Bonnie Raitt? Bruce Cockburn? Phil Keaggy (does he sing?) Paul Simon and Sting are both formidable solo performers. And of course, there's Paul McCartney. Gregg Seibert
I vote for "almost anyone." I was running sound at a local venue for their "accoustic lounge" night, for several months. We had most of the local rap/rock and metal bands in to do accoustic sets. Minimal drum kits or just percussion, acc. guitars, no loops, low volume. Most of these shows were FAR better than the bands normal ones, in my own opinion, of course. Judging from audience response though, most of those attending had similar opinions. Some of my favorite TV concert shows are the MTV Unplugged. And all this from a person who really doesn't like the normal singer/songwriter/guitar/folkie thing. Just my 2 cents. Gregg Without music, life would be a mistake - Nietzche QSC K10, Kurz PC3, K2500x, K2000R, Korg Z1, Roland A80, Roland S-750, 1970 MiniMoog, Synthi AKS, bunch of old rack modules. deanmass
Past-Michael Hedges, 1 more time......(sniff).... Most incredible show I ever saw.Lawrence, KS about 7 years ago... Present- David Wilcox or Shawn Colvin or Rory Block Tangent-I saw Jaco play at a pub in the hotel I worked at about 2 months before he was beaten to death. At the time I saw him, his face was swollen so badly they had makeup on him. He played for quit a long time with just a beat box and his Fender..It was incredible.... Lee Flier
1) Richard Thompson 2) Peter Case 3) Pete Townshend 'Course I HAVE seen all of them and it WAS righteous! Dylan
I'd like to see Brian Setzer do an acoustic bit. Would have loved to see Hendrix and Marley when they were alive :( . I wonder how good Tom Jones would be doing an acoustic thang :D .
rold
OK, since a non-living list seems acceptable too, I'll add: - Bob Marley - Brad Nowell (Sublime) - John Lennon - Shannen Hoon (Blind Melon) - Hendrix ...some more I can't think of right now meh
Empty Planet
Bowie. Johnny Cash. Tom Waits would be fun because I don't think he even PLAYS guitar. Can we do dead guys? Lennon would be a TRIP. Marley would be sweet, but Lennon if we can only pick one dead guy.
russrags
15 or 20 years ago I received the pleasure of seeing Dan Fogelberg perform this way in front of 20 thousand people. The stage was set with one hard back chair and 4 acoustic GTRs. It was mind boggling how one man and a GTR could have THAT MANY PEOPLE in the palm of his hand. Tomorrow I get to record Porter Wagner this way ..does that count ???? Britney ... I'd like to see that Billy Gibons Charlie Sexton Robin Trower Chris Issaks Jonny Lang Steve Winwood Billy Idol Alvin Lee Joe Walsh Dan Seals Eric Johnson Brent Mason ..... for starters

Botch.
Rod Stewart. His was the only "Unplugged" CD I bought, and it was a disappointment, way too overblown. I would love to hear That Voice with just an acoustic guitar. Phil O'Keefe Sound Sanctuary Recording Riverside CA http://www.ssrstudio.com pokeefe777@ssrstudio.com
Me, too, Phil. Several of my choices have been named, specifically:

JT
Mark Knopfler
Joe Walsh
Pete Townshend
Paul McCartney
and, if it were possible, John Lennon AND George Harrison (separate, together, I wouldn't care one way or the other! :( )
Others I'd like to see:

Paul Simon
Harry Chapin
Jerry Reed
Michael Hedges
Doyle Dykes
I've seen Hedges and Doyle Dykes play solo acoustic. Fantastic. I've been fortunate, living in Nashville, to hear several well known musicians and songwriters play solo acoustic. My favorite was mixing for Garth Brooks at a Capitol Records function. He mixed up a few songs that demontrated his influences and followed each with a similarly styled song Garth's known for. Just him and an acoustic. It was great, in part, because we have many of the same influences, including JT. Keith Urban was among the other folks that night who appeared solo. He's an amazing guitarist, but the impressive thing, that night, was his total control of the guitar's timbre. Most Nashville songwriters play in town, from time to time, often on writers night with no accompanyment. It's easiest to find me on Facebook. surfjunkie
wow, great list so far. however, most of the people mentioned are known for playing acoustic guitar and singing (except prince, andy partridge, billy idol (!!) and a few others). i'd take advantage and choose tom petty chrissie hynde frank black beck also, i'm not sure i want to watch britney spears try to entertain me on the guitar... ...how about natalie portman? Steve LeBlanc
Beck is great at the acoustic solo thing...most people don't know that was his main way of performing for a long time (until Odelay was released). My Dad (Leo LeBlanc) played several acoustic shows with Beck in the LA area, my Dad played Dobro...it was just the two of them. The last one was opening for Johnny Cash...it was the last gig my Dad played before he died in 1995. Just some FYI stuff if you're a fan of Beck. http://www.youtube.com/notesleb
