Do you dip?

A few years ago I was feeling exceptionally rich and did an experiment. Bought 12 pair of sticks, all different sizes, materials and coatings. My goal, find the perfect stick for me. I quickly settled on dipped sticks as I have a tendency to loose sticks while playing. The thing that surprised me is how different the brands are with their dip. If you want to try dipped sticks, and I suggest you do at least try, get multiple brands and see what feels best to you. After much playing I found that I preferred the Zildjain dips. The closest competitor, Vic Firth, became very tacky after heating up in my hands. If I played a full set with these I could see my fingerprints on the stick and would always check my hands to see if they had turned red. Temperature never seemed to affect the Zildjain dips that I bought. Of course, materials may change over time. I bought a good supply 9 years ago and am still using them.

So, have you tried dips? Do you like them?

I have an older Zildjian Dip pair, I like the feel a lot but the coating comes off in little bits that get all over.

I've heard they've improved, so I'm probably due to try them again.

I'm a lot more like I am now than I was when I got here.
