First, let's get this out of the way. I'm a child of the 70's and graduated high school in 1977. I was practicing drums 4-5 hours a day and taking piano lessons. Tried out and was accepted at a major college, my choice, percussion or piano. ... Deep into music. That's the background. Now, today. Had a HUGE stack of dishes in the sink. Stuff that would not go in the dish washer. Needed some motivation. Was feeling a bit nostalgic. ... No. ... Was feeling a lot nostalgic. So I plugged in the HomePod Mini and said the words. Yes, those words. I admit it. I said it. I lived it. ... ... ... "Hey Siri. Play 1970's disco." So, Siri starts spitting out songs. Songs that I had never heard. Formulistic crap based on a very bad formula. Where did this come from? It is not the music from my high school days. Not the music from that two year period when we thought disco was cool. This sounded like bad 1970's porn music. Music that you imagine the artist got paid 20 dollars for writing and recording. What is this crap? I wanted Cool and the Gang, Average White Band, Chic, Earth Wind and Fire. I got, well, I don't know what it was. Than, EPIPHENY! I knew what to do. How to fix it. ... "Hey Siri! Play 1970's funk music". ... ... ... The world was good again.

The best of disco:

Yep. I was in a Motown Tribute band playing casinos and the BL said "Let's all learn Disco Inferno."

At first, I was all "Really, we play all those beautiful Motown hits and now we gotta play Disco Inferno? But I kept it pretty much to myself and did my homework.

I knew our bassist was a monster but he drove Disco Inferno to the Moon and back. Dance floor was full, everybody was going nuts and the BL nodded at me to solo out for a bit to keep it going since it was our last song of the set.

I eased into groove that went total shred and BL smiled and waved me on. I went full-on dissonant and poly-beat on the Universe, I will always come back to the 1 eventually. Bassist was laughing so hard he almost fell on the floor but he kept up the assault and the dance floor stayed packed. We came around into Burn Baby Burn and I had a new favorite song. I still like it!

It took a chunk of my life to get here and I am still not sure where "here" is.

I haven"t said 'man' so much since....well... the 70"s!
