Saw it earlier. RIP Alto Reed. Posted on Sax On The Web. Dammit. Colon cancer. Killed my dad and an aunt on my mother's side. People, get a colonoscopy. It's very cheap life insurance at the price.
These are only my opinions, not supported by any actual knowledge, experience, or expertise.

'In lieu of flowers, Reed's family requested that fans, friends and others donate in his name to Detroit Symphony's Detroit Harmony Fund, which aims to place an instrument in the hands of every student in his hometown. They also encouraged people to regularly screen for colon cancer and learn about other preventative methods.'
Stuff and things.

I'm geting one this spring. Not my favorite thing to get done, but once every 10 years is not so bad.

You have to get it more frequently if they find something, though. :( That doesn't mean I won't do the follow up.

And those of you under 45 (latest recommended age is now 45, not 50), make sure you get a yearly physical and make sure you ask your doctor what options he/she recommends for you. There are a number of non-invasive tests available now that can be done to test for colon cancer at earlier ages.

And if you're getting your first, don't listen to people who had one done more than three years ago about how bad the stuff you drink the night before is. The latest stuff is decently pleasant, and considerably less liquid volume than in the past. Very tolerable...
